Pedro Almodovar visionary director. Brings us movies like Parallel mothers And Volver, Almodóvar constantly pushed the boundaries of filmmaking with his work. Now he’s doing it with his latest short film, Strange way of life. A Western that had its own comparisons to films like Brokeback mountain due to Almodóvar’s own comments on the film at the center of the love story of two men.

Starring Ethan Hawke And Pedro Pascal, very little of the film has been revealed other than the fact that it’s a love story and that it’s a western, which is what it’s meant to be. In a new podcast with Dua Lipa, Almodóvar sat down with the singer to talk about many things and share his love for her work, as we all do when it comes to Lipa and her music. However, Lipa also asked Almodóvar about his upcoming film and what he could tell her. While it wasn’t much, we did get some insight into the film, including when it will premiere. Almodóvar stated that the film will go to Cannes and the audience will be able to see it for the first time. Strange way of life.

On the podcast Dua Lipa: at your serviceAlmodóvar revealed that the film will open at the Cannes Film Festival. “He’s not allowed to talk much about westerns, but he’s going to say something because you are Dua Lipa and he loves you,” his translator said before Almodovar switched to speaking in English. “Heading Strange way of life. It comes out in May, opens at the Cannes Film Festival, and then we have to wait until then,” he said. “But of course it’s a western, it’s about masculinity, but I don’t want to categorize it, but I don’t know exactly what people will say about the western. It’s a queer western in the sense that there are two men who love each other and act in the opposite way in that situation. It’s about masculinity in that deep sense.”

The short film will add new elements to the western genre

Then his interpreter comes back and says, “So what I can tell you about the movie is that it has a lot of Western elements, it has shooters, it has a ranch, it has a sheriff. there’s a showdown, but what’s missing in most westerns is a dialogue that I don’t think has ever been made in a western film between two men.” But then they end the segment with Almodóvar saying he’s giving away too much.

With this we now know Strange way of life premieres at the Cannes Film Festival, and soon we’ll see a strange love story at the center of a western, and what Almodóvar thinks the dialogue is what sets it apart. It got us even more excited than we were already to see Pascal and Hawke take on the genre.
