The peak of television may be coming to an end. At least that’s what FX’s are John Landgraf discussed during TCA’s winter press tour, where it revealed in its annual original series tally that there were 599 original series in 2022, according to Collider’s own data. Carly Lane. That’s 39 more than the original 560 series in 2021.
While he acknowledged that forecasting is difficult, Landgraf shared “a strong indication that we will see a recession in 2023.” He continued, “That’s still my bet, albeit humbly noting that I was wrong on that prediction twice.” He noted that one of the signs that the TV peak was coming to an end was the decline in the number of new series in the second half of last year. New streaks dropped 2 percent from 252 in 2021 to 248 in 2022, a notable change from the first half of the year when they were high.
The chairman of FX Content & FX Productions originally started the conversation about “peak TV” in 2015, remarking that “there’s just too much TV”. Today, he reaffirmed his belief that 2022 will be the “peak” of peak TV during an executive meeting at TCA.
FX launched a number of these new shows mentioned by Landgraf last year, including Steve Carell-vel A patient, Taffy Brodesser-Aknerfilm adaptation of the novel Fleishman in trouble, Bear starring unscrupulous actor Jeremy Allen White, Under the Banner of Heavenbased Jon Krakauertrue crime bestseller, mini-series about the evolution of rock and roll Gun, Jeff Bridges-starring an old manas well as the return of the critically acclaimed series Atlanta created Donald Glover.
