As cinephiles, we have a love-hate relationship with movie trailers. Of course we will spam Twitter for Warner Bros to give us Barbie trailer or look forward to Disney giving us a first look at Indiana Jones and the Dial of Doom, but there are also trailers that show too little or too much. Trailers hinting that the studio has no idea how to promote a particular film, so they either mislead viewers or show the whole story in less than three minutes.

2022 gave us the final batch of films that were originally supposed to debut in 2020, which meant we as viewers had to say goodbye to trailers that seemed like a mainstay. Damn trailers Minions: Rise of Gru played before my show Sonic the Hedgehog in 2020 and then two years later before Sonic the Hedgehog 2. This is pure madness. After those leftovers were finally purged, we got a lot of great new trailers, some of which I would say were even better than the movies they advertised. So here are, at least in my opinion, the best trailers of 2022.

Avatar: Path of Water | Official Trailer

It’s still kind of a fever dream that finally, after 13 years of constant delays, memes, and now a lamentable shrug, we finally have a sequel to the biggest movie of all time. While the first teaser trailer that was released before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness served as a visually stunning reminder that we should question Cameron at our own peril, the second trailer, which debuted in early November, added to the excitement. Not only does it reveal much of the plot, but it hints at a much more emotionally charged film than its predecessor. Some might argue that using Loak’s “way of water” speech sounds like crappy trailer storytelling, but that makes it all the more powerful to me.

Barbarian | Official Trailer

trailer for Barbarian effective in many ways, firstly it says almost nothing about the movie and because of that the trailer made me want to see the real movie much more. I wanted to know what the hell was going on in that basement, I wanted to know Bill Skarsgard was some kind of monster; and it was Justin Long in the trailer? How would he fit into all this? It’s the perfect way to keep the public interested in your movie and for a movie that continually shatters your expectations, it’s actually the trailer that I would suggest you watch before watching the movie, honestly that’s part of the fun.

Barbie | Trailer

Is there a bias in this regarding novelty; May be so; but at the same time, I can’t get the damn trailer out of my head. Greta GerwigX Barbie this is a film that has been shrouded in mystery. It has an all-star cast with stars like Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Sim Liu, Issa Ray, Kate McKinnon, and the list goes on and on from there. We’ve seen all the viral pictures of Barbie and Ken in cowboy outfits, beachwear, and Will Ferrell rollerblading, but we still had no clue as to the actual plot of the movie, and with this teaser trailer, I feel like we’re even more questions. than we originally did. Parody 2001: Space Odyssey it’s certainly a choice that will most likely miss its target audience, but it’s also genius, and the brief glimpses of the film itself at the end promise something incredibly unique.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever | Official teaser

This is not a ranked list, but if there was, a teaser trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would easily be number one. The teaser starts with Temcover of “No Woman, No Cry” and creates a Marvel movie that promised to be much more mature and darker, and despite its absence, you can still feel the spirit of T’Challa. Don’t even get me started on moving on Kendrick Lamar”Okay”. I’m leaving with this, if we could give an Oscar to movie trailers, it would bring home gold.

cocaine bear | Official Trailer

There’s only one trailer released in 2022 in which a bear takes cocaine and goes on a bloody rampage through the woods, all set to White Lines, and that’s cocaine bear. I think this entry speaks for itself. What else could you want?

Elvis | Official Trailer

Elvis was apparently a lifelong passion project for Baz Luhrmann, and he’s been promoting the biopic for years, but with the glut of number-colored musical biopics, the marketing department clearly knew they needed to step up their game. It proudly boasts the flamboyant style for which the Australian author is known, giving us a glimpse at Austin Butleran incredible portrayal of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll and an impressive soundtrack that ends with “Unchained Melody”, all within just over three minutes.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 | Official Trailer

When I made this list, I really didn’t want to include two Marvel trailers. The MCU hasn’t been as consistent lately, but if there’s one person you can always rely on, it’s James Gunn. Installed in spacehogThe “Same Time” trailer promises an extremely emotional conclusion to the Gunn trilogy, and I, for one, can’t wait to leave the theater in a sobbing mess. How not to shed a tear looking at Baby Rocket?

John Wick: Chapter 4 Trailer | Official Trailer

No trailer delivers more thrills and awesome action than a new movie trailer. John Wick movie, and while the teaser trailer that premiered at SDCC certainly had a lot going on, the full trailer released in November was on a whole other level. Installing an action trailer on Terry Jacks”Seasons in the Sun” may seem like an odd choice at first glance, but those who know Jack’s lyrics know exactly why it fits so well. With glimpses of a violent meeting between Keanu Reeves and Donnie Yenlots of gun fu, familiar faces like Lance Reddick and Ian McShanea mysterious new enemy to play Bill Skarsgård and of course a few adorable yet ferocious dogs, the trailer does everything right to keep us even more interested than we already are for the new John Wick movie.

M3GAN | Official Trailer

M3GAN The trailer took the internet by storm when it went offline in mid-October, and it’s easy to see why. So many trailers don’t know how to sell their movies and tend to over complicate things, but everyone M3GAN The trailer was supposed to show the titular android running on all fours like a rabid animal and chasing people with a knife during a TikTok dance, all set to Taylor Swift song. In just two and a half minutes, M3GAN became an icon.

men | Official teaser trailer

In my opinion, Alex GarlandX Men was a repulsive, smug film that took such pride in its superficiality. On the other hand, a teaser trailer for Men nothing short of brilliant. This 90 second teaser trailer masterfully crafts an eerie plot using minimal dialogue, a creepy but understated soundtrack, a confused Jessie Buckley and a con artist. Rory Kinnearstands far away.

NO | Official Trailer

Jordan Peel quickly became one of the few Hollywood directors whose name alone is enough to sell tickets. The trailers for “Get Out” and “Us” were pretty straight forward with the premise of their respective films, but the first trailer nope on the other hand, like a puzzle. Beginning with Keke Palmer, peppy and optimistic in front of a green screen, and then ending with being lifted into the air. The trailer also manages to do Stevie Wonder the song sounds creepy. It’s the perfect balance to show the audience something weird without explaining what’s going on.

mining | Trailer

Short and simple, but a teaser trailer for Mining sends shivers down your spine. Minimum music, zero dialogue, only our main character Nehru is running across the field, and someone (or something) is chasing her, and when she raises her bow, these terrible three dots appear on her forehead. Of course, the longer trailer was great too, but those 44 seconds alone are more than enough to sell the movie, and far more effective than anything that happened in the 2018 movie, but we won’t go into that here.

TAP | Teaser Trailer 2

I admit that the first teaser trailer for Todd FieldX TAP didn’t really do much for me, in fact, it completely disconnected me from the movie. On the other hand, the second trailer did exactly what a trailer is supposed to do and made the movie almost to the top of my must-see list. Opera, fast editing and mind-blowing images superimposed Cate Blanchettthe storytelling makes the film feel much more like a psychological thriller than a typical Oscar-winning movie. This foreshadows the downfall of the protagonist.

cruel night | Official Trailer

trailer for cruel night nothing less than a Christmas miracle. It not only creates a festive mood, but also David Harbor like Santa Claus saying “Time for some beating seasons” before throwing an ax at an action movie. He also stabs another attacker right in the eye with a lit Christmas star and knocks out the other bad guy with a snowball. The trailer knows exactly what audience it’s targeting, and it really manages to make Santa Claus the ultimate tough guy.

Tale of two volumes | Top Gun: Maverick Final Trailer/Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 Teaser Trailer

It would be total blindness of me not to include the trailer for the biggest (and one of the best) movie of 2022 on this list. Trailers for Top Shooter: Maverick hit the net back in 2019 (believe it or not, the first trailer premiered on the same day as the trailer for cats). The previous two trailers are great on their own, but the latest trailer really sells the film, giving us a glimpse of the incredible aviation, memorable characters, and emotional core of the film.

Teaser trailer for Mission: Impossible - Paying for Death, Part One it’s a showcase of everything we’ve come to love about the spy franchise. Rebecca Ferguson, Tom Cruise running, beautiful places, car chases and, of course, Cruz looks death in the face and gives her the finger, performing another crazy stunt. After Mission Impossible - Aftermathmany fans like me thought Cruz and McQuarrie couldn’t top themselves, but judging by the trailer, IMF is once again ready to challenge our expectations.
