The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power star Tyro Muhafidin revealed more details about his character Theo during the 2022 SDCC, highlighting how his family history defines his place in Middle-earth. In an interview with Collider Perry Nemiroff In the highly anticipated series, Muhafidin also spoke about the tense relationship between humans and elves during the Second Age of Middle-earth.
Rings of Power will take us back to Middle-earth long before Sauron rose to power and nearly conquered the world. At this moment in history, the free people of Middle-earth are still struggling with the aftermath of the war against Morgoth, the first Dark Lord ever to threaten to devour all life. One character created specifically for the show to explore world history is Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi), a woman from the human village of Tirharad who is romantically involved with the wood elf Arondir (Ismael Cruz Cordova).
In the upcoming series, Tirharad is inhabited by the descendants of humans who sided with Morgoth and fought against the elves. The survivors of the great war have been cursed and are now forced to live under the watchful eye of the elven people, which only exacerbates the tension between the two races.
In the series, Muhafidin plays Theo, Bronwyn’s son, and in our interview with the cast, he explains how the history of his people influences his relationship with his family. According to Muhafidin:
“He is unhappy, you can say it a little. Obviously, the story between humans and elves that you know, thousands of years before, Theo’s ancestors sided with Morgoth and fought against the elves, and therefore, as punishment for their actions, they expelled me and had to start over almost in the slums of the Southlands And it’s being patrolled by Elves. And you know, and that was generations ago, and Theo thinks and Bronwyn thinks, and I think the whole village thinks it’s time to move through it and move on, but the elves just won’t forget. So there’s a lot of tension there. Especially when your mom is dating one of them.”
