Trading Sundays are scheduled only 7 times a year. The last opportunity to buy that day was at the end of June. Will all outlets open on July 16th?
- Trading Sundays 2023: Schedule
- Exceptions to the trade ban
- Penalty for unscrupulous traders
The law restricting trade on Sundays and public holidays has been in force for several years. However, this is still a topic with various uncertainties. All because of the exceptions contained in the document.
Consumers don’t know which Sunday they can go shopping. They also don’t know that some outlets may be open on non-commercial Sundays. Let’s see where we can go shopping on July 16th.
Trading Sundays 2023: Schedule
In accordance with the provisions of the Law, commercial Sundays are held 7 times during the year. They were planned before holidays such as Easter or Christmas, and before longer holidays (May weekends or holidays). When are trading Sundays scheduled in 2023?
-
January 29;
-
April 2;
-
April 30;
-
June 25;
-
August 27;
-
December 17;
-
December 24th.
On other Sundays of the year, most malls and shops are closed. July 16 is also a non-commercial Sunday.
Exceptions to the trade ban
The law also provides for several exemptions that allow certain outlets to operate on a non-commercial Sunday. These include stores where the owner will stand behind the counter. However, we will not only shop at the local store, Żabka or Carrefour Express. Open every Sunday:
-
confectionery;
-
shops at railway stations and airports;
-
ice cream shops;
-
kiosks;
-
cafe;
-
florists;
-
gas stations;
-
bakeries and confectioneries;
-
restaurants and bars;
-
pharmacies;
-
animal hospitals;
-
Post offices.
Some shops try their best to be able to work on a non-commercial Sunday. They offer postal services, reading clubs, and even sports equipment rentals. However, the government is effectively trying to deal with such dishonest activities.
Penalty for unscrupulous traders
For violation of the ban on trading on Sundays and holidays, a fine is imposed on the owner of the object. It varies from PLN 1,000 to PLN 100,000. With a constant violation of the rules, the entrepreneur may even face a prison term.
