Cherries half price. Popular fruits are still a luxury item

Must read

Spring has changed the face of local bazaars. Most fruits and vegetables are getting cheaper every week. Unfortunately, some products are still expensive. Cherries cost the most and, despite falling prices, are still a luxury item for most buyers.

Cherries went on sale in early May. At that time, imported fruits were not appreciated by buyers. It was not their taste, but the very high price. For most buyers, the amount of PLN 130/kg of their favorite fruit was unacceptable. Some vendors hid cherries at the back of their stalls so as not to annoy older customers.

A week ago, cherries cost PLN 100/kg. Prices have now dropped significantly.

Others took orders for cherries, but there were few who wanted to. In mid-May, the price of cherries fell to 100 PLN/kg, as reported on the pages of Wprost.pl. To encourage buyers to buy, sellers have prepared special micro-sets. Customers could buy cherries individually or in small packages or boxes of 125 grams.

The first option was used by young employees of nearby office buildings. Most often bought 4-6 pieces. For each of them I had to pay 1.5 zlotys. Today, cherries, although prices have halved in two weeks, are still worth a fortune. You have to pay more than 55-58 zł for a kilo of the cheapest fruits. That is how much the Hungarian variety of these fruits costs. A little more expensive are products of Greek, Moroccan or Spanish origin.

Cherry is a luxury product. June will be much cheaper.

Sellers complain that few people dare to buy cherries. Most often bought in packages of 125 grams or less than half a kilogram. For many buyers, cherries are a sign of high prices, a luxury they cannot afford. According to sellers, in two weeks the situation will change dramatically. It was then that the first Polish cherries should appear on the market.

– Imported products will soon be replaced by domestic ones and prices will fall significantly – the owners of stalls at the Mokotovsky Bazaar agree with this. In their opinion, in June they will cost 30-50 zł/kg. Cherry is at the bottom of the sales list. Currently, domestic products dominate the markets and vegetable shops. They make up 70 percent. range of sales. Among fruits and vegetables, the top sellers are raspberry tomatoes (PLN 10-12/kg), cucumbers (PLN 9/kg) and strawberries (PLN 20/kg).
