The first young Polish potatoes appeared in the markets. The Irga variety was not liked by the buyers. It’s not about taste, it’s about price. The domestic product is four times more expensive than the cheapest imported potato.
Spring has definitely changed the face of local bazaars. Polish vegetables and fruits not only replaced most imported products, but also had a significant impact on prices. From week to week we pay less for domestic products.
Most Polish products are cheaper than imported ones.
Raspberry tomatoes can already be bought for PLN 16-18 per kg. In March they were twice as expensive. Cucumbers were much cheaper. They are currently worth a third of the price we paid in February or March. Unfortunately, not all domestic vegetables or fruits are cheaper than imported ones.
They are much more expensive, strawberries or potatoes. Buyers are surprised by high prices. For many buyers, one type of price evokes unpleasant memories of high prices. Given a choice, they choose the cheaper alternative. Consumers avoid stands where prices are several times higher than those of competitors. “Cypriot and French potatoes come off right away. Wholesale prices for young domestic potatoes are very high
At the largest agricultural market in Bronisze near Warsaw, young Polish potatoes appeared on sale. This is a popular variety of irgi. Wholesale purchase prices PLN 15-18/kg. They cost a few dollars more in parts. The clients are surprised. You can buy four kilos of potatoes for 100 zł. - These are only the first pieces, they are always expensive. Soon they will cost 10 zł per kilo. one of the sellers tells us.
Cypriot young potatoes are the most popular on the exchange. - They have no taste but they are very cheap - says one of the merchants. In wholesale, they cost 4 PLN/kg. They can be purchased in detail from 6 zł / kg. According to the owners of the stalls in the bazaars, cheap vegetables are most often bought by pensioners who count every penny or foreigners from the East.
Buyers are also found in French varieties of young potatoes. The Lambert variety receives the best marks. These are small yellow potatoes with a thin delicate skin. Customers buy them and praise them a lot. they are very tasty - praises the owner of the counter at the local bazaar. Sellers buy them at a wholesale price of PLN 7/kg. In the bazaars, buyers have to pay twice as much.
