“We will do everything to protect Polish families from another pseudo-environmental invention of rich countries,” Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on Twitter, commenting on the decision of the European Council to ban the registration of internal combustion vehicles from 2035.
The European Commission has decided to ban the registration of new cars with internal combustion engines from 2035. The only country that voted against the new rules was Poland. Now PiS politicians are criticizing Brussels’ decision and saying they will continue the fight.
Morawiecki takes the floor
According to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the decision to impose a ban is “unacceptable”.
“We will do everything to protect Polish families from another pseudo-ecological fiction of rich countries and bureaucrats from Brussels! We want a green transformation that understands and supports Member States, and does not destroy their economies and the budgets of ordinary citizens,” the Prime Minister wrote on Twitter.
Earlier, Climate Minister Anna Moscow spoke about this. - A very bad regulation has been adopted, but we still have a revision ahead of us. 2025 and 2026 are the years of re-analysis and revision of this document. Then the European Union will work with the data, because it will already exist. It will be possible to assess the maturity of this market and this decision will be canceled or postponed, said Minister Anna Moscow
Registration of new internal combustion vehicles is prohibited
The Council of the European Union on Tuesday voted in favor of a bill that would ban the registration of vehicles with internal combustion engines by 2035. The decision stems from a desire to tighten carbon emissions standards.
The introduction of the rules came into question this week after Germany said it would not vote on the rules unless an exception was made for so-called e-fuels. However, Brussels succumbed to pressure from Berlin.
The regulation includes a provision that it will be possible to register cars running on all types of zero-carbon fuels. The rest will be banned from 2035.
