Qualifications for the individual competition took place on Thursday in Planica. Coach Thomas Turnbichler bet on Kamil Stoch, Piotr Zyla, Pavel Wonska, Aleksander Zniszol, Andrzej Stenkala and Jan Habdas. Unfortunately, not everyone was able to get to the Friday tournament.
Ahead of the last weekend of the Ski Jumping World Cup. Although we know the result, since Halvor Egner Granerud became the official winner on March 19, there will be no shortage of emotions in Planica.
Thomas Turnbichler chose six to compete in Purpura
Slovenia will host two individual competitions on March 31 and April 2. On Saturday, April 1, weakened by the absence of David Kubacki, the Polish team will try to present another surprise in the team standings.
However, before that, the jumpers had to take part in the qualification. Coach Thomas Turnbichler decided that Kamil Stoch, Piotr Zyla, Pavel Vonsek, Aleksander Zniszol, Andrzej Stenkala and Jan Habdas would perform in Planica.
Debut of Jan Habdas on mammoth hill
Qualifying began shortly after noon. 10:00 am, Thursday, March 30th. The jumpers started their fight from log number nine. Andrzej Stenkala was the first of the white-reds on beam. Our representative made a jump of 203.5 meters, which at the beginning did not qualify him, and his fate hung in the balance until the very end. Fortunately, in the end, the wards of Thomas Turnbichler managed to qualify for the competition.
Jan Habdas was next, making his mammoth debut. On the threshold, the Pole developed a dizzying speed, but, unfortunately, his inexperience was visible. His flight was very hectic and therefore short. The young Pole covered a distance of 178.5 meters, which, unfortunately, did not allow him to qualify.
Wąsek found himself in very difficult conditions, and Destroyer, on the contrary
The third Pole in qualifying was Paweł Vansek, who faced very difficult conditions. Strong winds from behind made it impossible to fly for a long time, so our representative gained only 171.5 meters.
On the other hand, Oleksandr Znishhol showed himself on a very good side, as evidenced by the reaction of the player and the coach himself. With a flight of 227.5 meters, he guaranteed himself promotion to the competition.
Petr Zhyla coped phenomenally with this flight
Three jumps later, Kamil Stoch checked the log. Vice-champion of World Flights from Obertsdorf 2018 jumped 224.5 meters, but this allowed him to qualify and get ahead of Alexander Znischol.
The last Pole to take part in this competition was Piotr Zyla. The world champion in regular hills has proven that flying is also his forte. Unfortunately, Belka had problems after leaving the threshold, but he managed to stretch this jump up to 221 meters. Without him, who knows how far it would have gone.
Where were the Poles?
The qualification was won by Anže Lanisek, who was able to jump 239 meters from a lowered beam. Second place went to Timi Seitz, who jumped Planica. The Slovenian landed at 241.5 meters. And on the lowest step of the podium was Domen Prevc, who ran a distance of 230 meters.
Kamil Stoch took 10th place. 11th and 12th places were taken by Petr Zhyla and Alexander Znishhol. Andrzej Stenkala finished 32nd. Unfortunately, Jan Habdas did not qualify for the competition, he finished the qualification in 55th place and Paweł Vonsek in 60th.
