CPK announced the selection of an investor option for the high-speed railway section: Katowice - Ostrava. Representatives of the company emphasize that the indicated course of the line assumes the minimum possible number of demolitions of residential buildings.
STH reports that the selection of the optimal variant for the section Katowice - Ostrava was a design challenge. The experts pointed out the option W72, which provides for the construction of new railway stations, incl. in Żory Polnotsne and Mszan, the possibility of building an intermodal terminal in Wodzisław Śląski, an additional section connecting Wodzisław Śląski and the center of Jastrzebie Zdrój, as well as new sections providing fast connections, e.g. Rybnik and Zory with Katowice and the rest of the country.
STH investment. Breakthrough for Jastrzebie-Zdrój
– The CPK project will include the city of Jastrzebie-Zdrój with a population of 90,000, which is by far the largest city in Poland without railway access, to the railway network. New railway stations and stops will be built, such as Jastrzębie-Zdrój Centrum and Zachód. Thus, we make up for the backlog of the last decades. Thanks to CPK’s investments in Silesia, the railway will cover more than 3.5 million inhabitants of this region, including Jastrzebie, Żory, Rybnik and Wodzisław – emphasizes Marcin Horala, Deputy Minister of Finance and Regional Policy, government plenipotentiary in the CPC.
The company emphasizes that, thanks to investments in the province, the Silesian Voivodeship will significantly reduce travel time. Passengers can get from Katowice to Jastrzebie-Zdrój in 50 minutes by suburban train or 35 minutes by fast train (no such service today). The train ride to Katowice from Rybnik will take 25 minutes (now more than twice), and from Wodzisław Sileski about 40 minutes (today more than 1 hour), from Zor Poulnocne to Katowice by train about 20 minutes, and from Wodzisław Sileski to Jastrzebie -Zdroj for about a quarter of an hour (there are currently no such flights). From Jastrzebie Zdroj and Rybnik we will reach Warsaw in 2 hours.
– The Katowice-Ostrava section is not only an important railway investment in the Silesian region, but also an element of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), i.e. ultimately connecting Katowice, Krakow and Warsaw with Brno, Prague, Bratislava. , Vienna and Budapest. Our investments are cross-border and are closely coordinated with the investment activities of Správa železnic, our Czech partner - emphasizes Mikołaj Wild, president of CPK.
How many demolitions?
The company emphasizes that its priority was to take into account the comments of residents. Since February 2020, STH representatives have organized about 100 meetings with residents and representatives of local authorities. They were held in 15 communes, through which the variants of the railway lines passed. More than 7,000 people attended the meetings. comments and opinions.
Maciej Panczak, coordinator of the Katowice-Ostrava section at the STH railway department, emphasizes that the chosen option W72 assumes the minimum possible number of demolitions of residential buildings. There will be about 550 of them, which, as Panchak points out, is several hundred fewer than in the case of other options.
