There is an official statement from PKP Intercity. The company refuses to raise ticket prices introduced less than a month ago. PiS politicians were asked this in the morning.

PKP Intercity reduces ticket prices or actually returns to prices until January 11, 2023. It was then that the company announced the increase, which caused an uproar not only among passengers, but also among politicians from the ruling camp. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki intervened personally.

PKP Intercity returns to the old prices. High Funding Carrier

As we learn from the announcement, the reduction in prices, or rather the refusal to increase, is possible due to the involvement of the Ministry of Infrastructure. The company acknowledges that it will receive more money from the ministry as part of a public service contract.

“The introduction of lower prices is possible due to additional optimization measures and due to an increase in the remuneration of PKP Intercity for 2023 under the Public Services Agreement (DON). The subject of the current agreement between the carrier and the Ministry of Infrastructure is the provision of public services by PKP Intercity in the field of interregional passenger rail transportation in 2021-2030”– read in the message.

Ticket prices are back to pre-increase levels

On February 7, during the weekly press conference preceding the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the press secretary of the government was asked about this.

“Price cuts will be implemented by the end of February, at the latest by March 1,” said government spokesman Petr Müller. The spokesman was also immediately asked if it was already known to what level ticket prices would fall. - According to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, this will be a return to last year’s rates, - said a government spokesman.

“The base prices for connections in the TLC and SC categories will be on average approximately 11% lower than in the previous year. lower than the current ones, and for the EIC and EIP categories - by an average of about 15%, thus returning to the previous level before January 11. The new prices will come into effect on March 1, 2023.
