What will happen to ticket prices at the PKP, which were raised on January 11, is known. The Prime Minister promised to intervene in this matter. A government spokesman said that there are already specifics.
Increased prices for train tickets. The decision of January 11 caused indignation not only among passengers, but also members of the government, headed by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
“PKP Intercity is adapting ticket prices to the current market situation – rising operating costs, primarily due to higher electricity prices and competitors’ price offer. The updated price list will come into effect on January 11, 2023. The translation did not convince the prime minister.
PKP price reduction. We know the date
During the press conference, PiS spokesman Rafal Bochenek and government spokesman Piotr Müller were also asked about the expected date for the introduction of the PKP ticket price reduction.
– The price reduction will be carried out by the end of February, at the latest by March 1 – This was stated by government spokesman Peter Muller.
The spokesman was also immediately asked if it was already known to what level ticket prices would fall. - As Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said, this will be a return to last year’s rates - said a government spokesman.
Zero VAT on PKP tickets
On Wednesday, the deputies from the “Left Club” submitted to the Seimas a draft law on the introduction of a zero VAT rate on railway tickets. Currently 8% tax is included in the ticket price.
– This is a simple, fair project, thanks to which all passengers, and not just those who travel by Intercity trains, will pay less. This is a solution that can be implemented right now, for this we do not need any approval. This is a solution that was presented by Finland earlier this year, Paulina Matysjak of the Lewica club said on Wednesday.
– There is a zero VAT rate limit that can be set by each EU country. If it is exceeded, we must refuse other zero rates. It is a dilemma in which area we want to do it. Zero VAT on food is now of key importance to us. I do not rule out other tax-related measures being taken, but I am currently awaiting action from the PKP - Peter Muller explained at a press conference.
