Today, the government will announce a freeze on electricity tariffs, most likely to a consumption level of 2,000 kWh, and will also announce additional decisions, government spokesman Petr Müller confirmed. A package of assistance is also being prepared for large enterprises using huge volumes of gas. If the spokesman is to be believed, the government will not have good news for the smallest entrepreneurs.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Morawiecki will announce a package of decisions related to energy prices, government spokesman Piotr Müller told Radio Plus. He added that the government wants to freeze tariffs, but is also preparing additional solutions. He declined to comment on the details, but earlier on Radio Zet, climate minister Anna Moskva admitted that the government is working to keep energy prices up next year. The price freeze will apply to consumption up to 2000 kWh, “which is the average energy consumption in households, we are setting prices at this year’s level, we are discussing, among other things, further ideas. at the forum of the European Union,” said the head of the Ministry of Climate.
- Everyone in the basic tariff, that is, 6.5 million recipients, will benefit from freezing energy prices. We are working on lowering the tariff for everyone, but here we are waiting for the EU decision, ”Moscow said. “We encourage savings, we already see it in gas, we see it in electricity,” she added.
Muller was asked on Radio Plus how large families would be treated if they could not maintain the average consumption level calculated for smaller households. He assured that the government has a pro-family policy, so families that consume more than 2,000 kWh of energy will also be offered coverage.
High gas prices. There will be proposals for the energy-intensive sector
At Thursday’s conference, Prime Minister Morawiecki will also present an aid package to energy-intensive sectors such as steel and nitrogen plants. And small entrepreneurs: restaurants, bakeries?
- Let’s go back to the reason for the high gas prices: this is Russia’s gas blackmail, but the prices are also high due to certain EU rules. For energy prices to fall, these rules must change. The second solution is domestic subsidies for the energy-intensive sector and large enterprises. At the next stages, we will look for common solutions, for example, for companies. It is difficult, subsidies from the state budget are considered in the second stage, because subsidies are meaningless if we can reduce prices at the EU level, said a government spokesman.
So small entrepreneurs will not hear good news today. In the longer term, this will hit consumers, as producers will either have to raise prices to offset the increase (in the case of baked goods and bread, which is clearly more expensive today than it was a year ago, and this is not the end of prices). changes), or they will either cease operations or suspend operations for an extended period of time during the winter (this decision may be made by owners of some restaurants, hotels or private sports facilities).
