From a drone, they watched cyclists break the law. Fines poured in

Must read

Police officers from Piaseczno near Warsaw probably decided (we assume) to become “Polish champions in issuing fines based on drone photos.” Previously, they chased people talking on mobile phones, then drivers signaling patrol lights, and now they have taken care of cyclists.

We regularly report that Piaseczno police officers have a drone with which they effectively pursue road users who commit offenses. That’s because the officers regularly brief… us. Their drone (they too) are slowly becoming famous all over Poland, not only in Piaseczno.

This time (as we read) police actions aimed at the safety of two-wheelers revealed that their use of cycling infrastructure leaves much to be desired and differs significantly from what is clearly stated in the rules of the road. In just a few moments, 14 cyclists got into an illegal race, two of them got on the bike on “double throttle”.

The police remind that the rules for the movement of bicycles are precisely described in the Law on Road Traffic. Unfortunately, many cyclists do not remember that even Article 33 clearly states that “the rider of a bicycle or electric scooter is obliged to use the road for bicycles, the road for pedestrians and cyclists or the lane for bicycles”, and at the same time the cyclist must remember to exercise extreme caution and give way to pedestrians.

– Observation of the behavior of cyclists in Piaseczno County shows that not everyone remembers the rules governing the rules of cycling, so the policemen of the Piaseczna DDD, in cooperation with the SRS (Specialized Rescue Service), carried out activities during which a drone with a zoom that allows you to carefully observe the behavior of cyclists,” says Asp. Magdalena Gonsowska from the Piaseczno police.

Unfortunately, during the events it turned out that many cyclists do not follow road signs, traffic lights, ride on sidewalks or, even worse, get on a bicycle on a “double throttle”, posing a threat not only to themselves, but also to their superiors. all other road users.

Walking only 3 times

Sidewalk driving is one of the most common offenses and is only legally allowed in three cases when:

  • a cyclist takes care of a person under the age of 10 who rides a bicycle,

  • the width of the sidewalk along the road on which vehicles move at a speed of more than 50 km/h is at least 2 meters and there is no bicycle, pedestrian-bicycle or bicycle path,

  • when weather conditions threaten the cyclist’s safety on the road (snow, strong winds, heavy rain, icy conditions, thick fog).

Penalties for offenders

During the events, 12 cyclists received fines for illegal driving, two more were caught driving while intoxicated: the 42-year-old had more than 1 ppm in the body, and the 50-year-old had more than 1.5 ppm. alcohol in the breath.

Taking this opportunity, the police are urging people to be careful when using bicycles and to comply with applicable laws.
