Since March, the Uber app has been able to request rides for others. The implementation is the result of a recently launched collaboration between Uber and Sexedpl.
In March 2023, Uber partnered with the Sexedpl Foundation and became a strategic partner of the Violence Hotline for people who experience, use or witness violence. In the first phase of the partnership, representatives from the organization also visited the Uber Shared Services Center in Krakow, where issues related to travel safety incidents are dealt with on a daily basis.
Change after the master class
During joint workshops, the Sexedpl Foundation learned about the applicable procedures and security features available in the application and recommended the implementation of the possibility of booking trips for other people, which is already available in some countries.
– At the meeting, we proposed solutions that we would like to use ourselves as users and passengers. Being able to book a ride for someone is what we felt was a natural evolution of the available features, as well as a complement to the full range of actions we are taking together to counter violence,” says Martina Wyzykowska, Managing Director of Sexedpl.
Select passenger
To order a guest trip from your personal account, select the “Change passenger” option. This feature is available at the top of the screen. The new passenger will receive a notification about the details of the trip, and the driver - after accepting the order - will be shown the name. The application will also allow you to make a call, while maintaining complete confidentiality and anonymity of data, including phone numbers. The travel status of a loved one is displayed in the app in real time.
The ability to book rides for third parties in Poland is part of the biggest global update to the Uber app, the company said.
