“This song will be the last”: street musicians died in Zaporozhye, who at the time of the rocket attack were giving a concert in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

“Svetlana died on the spot under the rubble. And Christina was found alive. She was taken to intensive care, where she died the next morning.”

Before their last concert, Svetlana and Kristina recorded a short message to the subscribers. The video shows that the girls are standing at the place where a tragedy will happen in a few hours.

“Hi all. Today we arrived a little early, so we will start at 18.00. We ourselves did not expect that it would be so fast that they would bring us. Thank you for this and let’s start early today- Smiling, said Christina and Svetlana.

Excerpts from their latest performance can also be viewed online. Many of their songs are dedicated to Ukraine. Friends of the girls say that Svetlana and Kristina loved their country very much and each such street concert was a fundraiser for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a contribution to a future victory.

- Young, beautiful, talented, - told friend of the dead Victoria Knysh. - I have known the girls for a very long time, we went to the same school with them. But they began to communicate closely after the start of a full-scale invasion. Last summer, Christina, Svetlana and their friends were invited to a concert for military personnel. There Christina and Svetlana got to know each other better. Then they had the idea to create a duet. Christina is a singer, and Svetlana played the guitar, and besides, she wrote the lyrics herself.

They made a very good tandem. They dubbed their duet Similar girls. The name was very successful, because they really look alike - like little sisters. They are different in character, but they had a common goal, a hobby that united them. Everyone around thought they were sisters. In addition, they were in the Cover band Gems, which I led. This group ceased to exist last month. But Similar girls stayed and continued to delight people with their performances.

Girls often performed on the street, in Zaporozhye. Svetlana and Kristina are from the village of Matveevka, but it is very close to Zaporozhye, so it was not a problem for them to go there to perform. In the city they were well known, loved and invited to perform at holidays - at weddings, engagements. They often sang for our military. For them, it was also important because Christina is the daughter of a soldier. Her father is at the front now.

The girls have brothers and sisters. Both have young people with whom they were in a relationship. The girls lived, loved, were engaged in creativity and did everything possible to bring our victory closer. Even last year, immediately after the start of a full-scale invasion, they did not leave anywhere - they remained in Ukraine and helped as much as they could. We made plans, wrote songs, wanted to develop as musicians. And how painful it is that the whole country found out about them only now, under such horrifying circumstances…

Svetlana died on the spot under the rubble. And Christina was found alive. She was taken to intensive care, where she fought for her life until the morning of the next day. But on August 10, we were informed that it was not possible to save her.

The last performance took place an hour before arrival.

Now Instagram of both girls is full of sympathy and memories. Many people did not know Christina and Svetlana personally, but they remember because they saw them on the street, heard their songs, saw them at concerts. There, on the page Similar girls, you can listen to their songs. On her personal page, Svetlana shared with subscribers her successes in playing the guitar and published photos with her boyfriend Nikita. After the girl’s death Nikita published stories with her photos and wrote:

“I would like to meet you again, touch you, hear your voice… But this is impossible. You have always been, are and will always be in my heart. I love you“.

Christina on her page often shared her thoughts about life, creativity, talked about her dreams. Under the video where she performs “Oh, red viburnum in the meadow,” Christina wrote:

“I want to live! I want to live on my land! I want to live and not be afraid that I won’t wake up tomorrow! The damned “Russian world” has taken a lot from us. Deprived millions of people of their lives, took away our homes and razed cities to the ground! We will definitely punish everyone who came to our land!

I would like to support our Ukrainian spirit with a song! Glorious Ukraine - do not be sad! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the APU! Glory to heroes!“

On June 16 last year, on her birthday, Christina wrote:

“I am twenty! Six months ago, I wanted to celebrate my birthday somewhere in another country, with new sunsets. Now: unwillingness to have nowhere to leave Ukraine. Where else to celebrate, if not in your free and special country?“

- Christina once told me that she would not allow the thought of leaving- told friend of the deceased Irina. - The situation in the Zaporozhye region can hardly be called calm, but here was her home, her family. Here she and her mother, brother and sister were waiting for their father from the front… On that day, August 9, I saw both her and Svetlana. I listened to their concert, but I could not stay until the end - I went even before the song dedicated to Kherson. Now I found an excerpt from the video in social networks, where they say before its performance: “This song will be the last …”

I heard the sound of an explosion … I also thought that it was just in the direction where the girls were - probably very close … Going to Christina’s Instagram page and not seeing any updates there, I wrote her a message - they say, you are fine. But she was offline. I wrote to Sveta, but she didn’t write back either. Then there were reports in the media that people had died … But I could not even imagine that we were talking about girls. Then I already found out that at the moment when I tried to get through to Christina on Instagram, she was taken to the hospital, all mutilated.

The press service of the Southern Operational-Territorial Association of the National Guard of Ukraine, quoted by UNIAN, reported that the dead girls constantly supported the Armed Forces of Ukraine:

“They were constantly engaged in supporting the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and during the shelling they gave a concert on the square where the Russian missile hit. Kristina is the daughter of NSU soldier Alexander Spitsyn, who from the first days of the war defended Ukraine and his family… On Father’s Day, they recorded and sent a video message in support of the National Guardsmen. In this appeal, the girls, to their own guitar accompaniment, sang a song dedicated to their parents and all the fighters who defend the state. This video has received about one and a half million views on various social networks.“.

“Yesterday they sang together and played for people, but today they are gone. The Russian rocket took away their voice, their life and together with them a part of the soul of each of us… The girls believed in a bright and peaceful life under the Ukrainian flag. They believed in victory, brought it closer on their own. So now we have to do it for them.“- wrote on Facebook Victoria Knysh and told FACTS that you can help the families of the dead girls here.
