Cases of theft of vehicles have become more frequent in Ukraine. It’s not just luxury cars that get stolen. More often, cars are stolen for disassembly so that parts can be sold.
According to statistics for 2022, the number of car thefts increased one and a half times in Ukraine, writes UBR.ua.
If the social situation worsens and the police fail to prevent new kidnappings, the number of kidnappings in the future will only increase.
Experts recommend installing an alarm on a car, which is best used in combination with other methods.
By type, one- and two-way types of alarms are distinguished. The one-sided model is simple and accessible, but already outdated. The two-way model sends information about the state of the car to a special key fob, smartphone or tablet.
A standard alarm monitors the opening of a door, hood or trunk. However, it will not necessarily work if someone climbs into the car by breaking the glass. In this case, shock sensors will help. They are also divided into one- and two-zone (with sensitivity adjustment).
At present, most of the market is occupied by European Eurosec alarms manufactured in the Baltic countries. With the installation of this brand will cost 16 thousand hryvnia. At the same time, a server is provided free of charge for a period of 25 years, and maintenance of a SIM card will cost about one hryvnia per day.
“This brand is equipped with a 3D sensor, a tilt angle sensor - when it changes already by 1% of lifting with the same jack, the system is triggered, as well as a displacement sensor”- said the expert.
The Italian Patrol line model is valuable and of high quality, but it costs more. Czech manufacturer Jablotron offers the same option as Eurosec. Also on the market are Israeli-made Spetrotec and Starcom.
Experts also recommend using an immobilizer. This is an electronic anti-theft accessory. With it, the car will be immobilized if the attacker starts the engine and tries to escape. When moving away from the owner at a certain distance of several hundred meters, the engine will simply stall.
The principle of operation is simple: the key fob or a special card of the owner of the car stops receiving a signal from the car itself.
The car will be blocked even if the immobilizer is mechanically damaged or turned off completely. In addition to inflammation, the fuel system of the car will be inoperative. Now a conventional immobilizer is an electronic device with a two-level identification system.
Immobilizers are divided into several types, depending on:
- activation methods - contact and non-contact;
- type of installation - factory and additional;
- signal translations - static, dynamic (with variable code) and dialog.
It should be noted that static code is much easier to intercept or hack.
According to experts, an integrated approach is required to protect a car. The alarm will alert you to the possibility of a kidnapping. The immobilizer can additionally delay even an experienced hijacker for half an hour.
In addition to installing a security system, experts recommend “hanging” hidden beacons on the car, the so-called GPS tags. This will allow you to locate the car if it was stolen.
Many Ukrainians, leaving for a long time, want to protect their car from theft. Experts warn that any alarm eats up the battery in one to two months, depending on the car.
It can be configured so that the alarm goes into deep sleep - when the car wakes up, the alarm will wake up too.
Another option is paid parking. To prevent the car from starting, the driver must remove the battery.
