Starlink will continue to work in Ukraine - we managed to agree with Musk

Must read

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that officials are in direct contact with businessman Elon Musk to resolve the issue of continuing work in the country of SpaceX Starlink terminals. Earlier, the founder of SpaceX announced the need to compensate the company’s expenses by the Pentagon, and then that it would continue funding.

According to POLITICO, Reznikov said that there would be “no problem” with this issue, citing “personal communication” between the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Mikhail Fedorov, and Elon Musk.

He also noted that if the issue of money becomes especially acute, there are “at least three sources” of funding. This could be a Pentagon aid package, funds from Europe, or private donors.

The Pentagon is considering paying for the Starlink satellite network with funds from a fund that has been used to supply weapons and equipment for a long time. In addition to SpaceX, there are other options for such services. Thus, the Californian satellite communication company Viasat said that it provides support to Ukraine and the region, in particular, it provides free Wi-Fi for Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia.

The Pentagon has previously said it understands the importance of communications in Ukraine and has said it is doing everything possible to keep communications available to Ukrainian forces.
