In Ukraine, during the war, scammers became more active, offering fake payments to Ukrainians. The National Bank reported that swindlers spread information about supposedly social assistance from the NBU.
The National Bank of Ukraine allegedly holds a charity event together with the Your Support Foundation - all Ukrainians are paid a “social-individual payment.”
To fill out an application for the payment of such assistance, the attackers offer to go to a fraudulent chatbot.
The National Bank clarified that the financial institution does not make any social payments. Currently, the NBU is holding a charity event to raise funds to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine. But it’s not about payments.
All funds received on the special accounts of the NBU in aid of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are transferred to the needs of the military.
Funds received on a special account for humanitarian needs are received and disposed of by the Ministry of Social Policy.
The National Bank told how, according to such schemes, fraudsters can appropriate other people’s money.
“On fraudulent sites, chat bots, attackers can offer to provide personal information and make an additional payment for assistance, as a result, payment card data can be compromised”- the message says.
Under the pretext of making a payment, scammers can ask for secret information:
- PIN-code to the card;
- three-digit number on the back of the card;
- validity period of the card, etc.
Ukrainians in the NBU urged not to follow unverified links.
If you need to go to the website of the organization whose address you received in the link, it is better to enter the name of the required site in the search engine and only then go to the web resource.
Checking the correctness of the name of the sites to which you go and enter your personal data. The addresses of the real and fraudulent site may be similar, except for one or more characters.
Do not enter payment card details on unfamiliar and suspicious websites.
Block the card if you accidentally disclosed payment card details on a suspicious site.
Do not tell anyone the PIN code for the card, the three digits on the back of the card, the codes (one-time passwords) of banks and mobile operators.
The financial institution urged to use information only from official sources. Information about all types of legal financial assistance that our citizens can receive can be viewed on the portal https://aid.edopomoga.gov.ua.
Recall that the other day, PrivatBank warned Ukrainians about a dangerous phishing site that illegally uses the design and logos of the bank.
