Ukrainians who have worked in both Ukraine and Poland are entitled to a pension in both countries. This is provided for by the interstate agreement on social security, which was in May 2012 (came into force in January 2014), recalls the InPoland resource.
The amount of the Polish pension depends on the official salary that the person received, as well as on the contributions paid by him to the ZUS (similar to the Ukrainian Pension Fund) during his seniority. In 2019, the Poles’ pension amounted to almost 40% of the average salary, which corresponded to PLN 1,100.
It is also possible to simultaneously receive a Ukrainian pension.
“We will pay a pension for the insurance period in Poland, while the Ukrainian institution will pay benefits for periods of work in Ukraine,” - explained in the regional department of social insurance of the Lower Silesia region.
Conditions for receiving a pension in Poland
According to the Polish-Ukrainian agreement, a Ukrainian can receive a pension in Poland if the last place of employment registered with the labor department was in Poland. It is also required that this be work under an employment contract or under an assignment agreement.
In addition, the condition for receiving a pension is the achievement of the required minimum age and length of service. The minimum retirement age for women is 60 years, for men - 65 years. The length of service for women must be 20 years, for men - 25 years. The length of service includes the periods of payment of pension contributions to ZUS (during employment), as well as the period of non-payment of contributions during studies at the university.
You should remember that the period in which you did not pay pension contributions to ZUS cannot exceed one third of the contribution periods.
How to attribute the period of work in Ukraine to a pension in Poland
The Polish-Ukrainian agreement allows summing up the work experience in Ukraine to the pension experience in Poland. That is, if you worked in your homeland for 15 years, and then 10 years in Poland, then from this period you can receive a pension in Poland. However, the Polish ZUS informs that the institution will finance the pension of a Ukrainian only for the years of work in Poland. For the period of work in Ukraine, the pension will be sent from the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
To add a period of employment in Ukraine to the pension experience, you need to take a certificate from the place of work confirming that you worked there. The certificate must indicate the amount of the monthly salary. All documents must be translated into Polish by a sworn translator and submitted to the ZUS office at the place of residence in Poland.
Important: the periods of employment in Ukraine cannot coincide with the time of employment in Poland.
Recall that from October 1 in Ukraine will increase pension payments to those who are 70 years old and over.
