Google is gearing up for one of the company’s biggest events this year, Google I/O 2023, scheduled for May 10th. Even before the first broadcast, the company decided to release a short teaser presenting one of the key devices - the foldable Pixel Fold. smartphone.
The video is less than 10 seconds long and reveals little, but it has quickly been viewed over a million times. The material mainly shows the design of the device with a distinctive camera island and a vertical hinge that allows the smartphone to fold inwards like a laptop.
The layout of the screens is reminiscent of Samsung’s Z Fold line, which has been on the market for several years - the concept consists of a standard screen on the outside of the device that can be folded down to the size of a small tablet.
Google Pixel Fold leaks
Google’s presentation is official confirmation of previous leaks. Previously, analysts had hoped the foldable phone would be part of last year’s Google I/O event. However, this did not happen. At the end of April of this year, a video leaked online showing someone assembling and disassembling a Pixel Fold or a prototype phone.
We don’t know anything about the spec yet… at least not officially. According to CNBC sources, the Pixel Fold is expected to measure 5.8 inches and fold down to a 7.6-inch tablet. The heart of the phone is likely to be Google’s proprietary Tensor G2 processor, and the weight of the device is expected to be around 283 grams.
Google chose “the strongest hinge on the market.” The price, however, must be quite high as it has been set above $1,700 (over PLN 7,000), anonymous sources add.
