I have been working as a news website writer for over 10 years. I have also authored several books on technology news. I am highly knowledgeable in the field of technology and enjoy sharing my insights with others. I am an active user of LinkedIn and use it to connect with other professionals in my field. I am always interested in learning new things and sharing my knowledge with others.

ChatGPT has been popular for many months, and Google Bard has been failing. This is the beginning of the AI wars that we will remember for years to come. Microsoft and Google are using their most powerful weapons in a conflict that could decide the collapse of one of the companies.

The term “AI Wars” is reminiscent of numerous apocalyptic scenes such as the Terminator plot or “I have no mouth and I must scream.” However, the conflict between advanced artificial intelligences is happening here and now - on the business front.

In the latest wave of popularity, ChatGPT AI introduced Microsoft to its products. Google has followed suit, and these are just two of the largest of the dozens, if not hundreds, of companies now vying for a spot in the brand new market for machine learning-based conversational assistants.

With Dr. Shimon Verchinsky, Associate Professor of Strategy at Kozminsky University, we talk, in part, about whether AI in Bing could mean the end of Google.

Krzysztof Sobepan, Wprost.pl: Is it possible to sum up all the chatbots with artificial intelligence that have recently appeared on the market?

Dr. Szymon Wierciński, Kozminski University: This is an almost impossible task. All major technology companies are currently working on their version of such technology. In addition, there are thousands of global startups that are also working on their AI models - we have models in the market like Jasper, Stability AI, Anthropic. You can change for a long time.

Moreover, not all companies are public about what they are working on. Therefore, determining the total number is an extremely difficult task.

And when it comes to products that enjoy a lot of public opinion lately? Microsoft has integrated ChatGPT into Bing. Google recently announced AI Bard. Even the Chinese company Baidu is preparing to test Ernie Bot.

ChatGPT is currently one of the most high-profile and recognizable projects. However, I would not say that it was the first on the market or even that it is a Microsoft project. We must remember that this system was developed by OpenAI years earlier and the Redmond giant only bought the exclusive rights to the technology in 2020.

It’s also worth noting that the currently in-demand chatbots are not a completely new idea. OpenAI has been working with ChatGPT since 2015. Google started its project with the so-called large language models that the company has been developing since 2018. Before creating Ernie Bot, Baidu worked on the Ernie language model.

Going back even further, every popular chatbot is based on machine learning solutions and neural networks. Machine learning is a modernized version of genetic algorithms. It boils down to the fact that you can train a computer to work in a certain way, but without involving human intelligence and “manual” optimization.

The first trainable neural network was created in the 1950s. True, he had only one node, or “artificial neuron”, and he could recognize images only at a rudimentary level.

Due to hardware limitations, this topic was shelved for many decades. However, over time, the computing power of computers has increased significantly. Secondly, the Internet provided a huge amount of data on which to train, for example. language models.

AI in deep learning was somehow brought to life by Jeffrey Hinton, who in 2012 created the first working AI model based on a neural network. Now we have very favorable conditions for the development of artificial intelligence. Thanks to them, AI models flourished, and today they are able to do phenomenal things.

Let’s go back to the here and now. ChatGPT has become so popular because it is quite easy for the average Internet user to interact with it. Was it just his viral popularity that started a certain snowball among tech companies?

It can be easily traced that the high and steady interest of Internet users has become one of the reasons for the recent wave of advertising. I’ve been following the recent Microsoft and Google conferences with great attention. They were almost one after the other.

In my opinion, we are now seeing much more than just interest and a snowball effect. The AI war has begun before our very eyes.
