In the fight of the evening at the gala boxing concert in Wroclaw, the world heavyweight champion of four federations: WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO - Oleksandr Usyk and the contender for this title - Daniel Dubois fought. This fight ended with a knockout in the ninth round. However, the Briton and his camp are unhappy with this result and feel cheated.
Controversy during Usyk-Dubois fight
We are talking about the events of the fifth round, when the referee lost the fight after seeing Dubois hit below Usyk’s belt. According to the British camp, nothing of the sort happened. “I was deceived because I won this fight,” the 26-year-old contender for the world title admitted in the ring.
Dubois did not even appear at the press conference, and his absence was explained by the fact that he was, to put it mildly, dissatisfied with the outcome of the fight and the decision of the referee in the fifth round.
Promoter Dubois: We will apply to the WBA
Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren, who appeared at a meeting with media representatives, denied the fact that his ward had committed an illegal strike and protested. “We will ask the WBA to annul the result of the fight. In this situation, the referee made a mistake, and Usyk was given time to rest,” he said, quoted by WP SportoweFakty.
