The legendary jumper is out of frame. Sensational decision by the coach

Must read

The Norwegian Ski Association has announced the composition of the ski jumping team for the 2023/24 season. He missed Robert Johansson, who for many years was his core. His place was taken by another player.

The winter ski jumping season is still far away. At the beginning of April, we said goodbye to the past, but in a few weeks we will have the Summer Grand Prix, in which many high-level jumpers will take part. Everything points to the fact that we will not see Robert Johansson in him, who until recently was going to end his career, but abandoned this idea.

Robert Johansson out of Norwegian ski jumping team

On Wednesday afternoon, the Norwegian Ski Association announced the composition of the national team for the upcoming season. Like last year, the Norwegian national team will consist of thirteen athletes, including six jumpers, as well as seven women jumpers. Alexander Stöckl will be head coach of the men’s team for the thirteenth year in a row, while Christian Meyer, head coach of the Norwegian ski jumpers since the 2010/11 season, will lead the women’s team.

The men’s group always consists of: Halvor Egner Granerud, Johann Andre Forfang, Daniel-Andre Tande, Marius Lindvi and Benedik Jacobsen Heggli. Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal is a new player among the designated players. By far the biggest sensation is the absence of Robert Johansson among the nominees. His fate was also shared by Thomas Aasen Markeng and Fredrik Vullumstad. The 33-year-old Norwegian’s form left much to be desired last season and he struggled with back injuries.

What’s next for Robert Johansson’s career?

The jumper has long stated that he intends to end his career as a ski jumper, but decided to postpone his plans. The 33-year-old will continue his career and train at his home training center in Lillehammer, where longtime teammate Anders Fannemel recently joined the coaching staff.
