Stal Nysa had to win to guarantee a playoff spot. Projekt Warszawa did not have to fight for a place in the table, but after a fierce struggle, he won. The volleyball player of the capital club admits that all trainings are focused on competitions with ZAKSA Kendzezhin-Kozle.
Projekt Warszawa won the thirteenth championship match in a row. Petr Graban’s team has not yet suffered defeat in the current calendar year. Thanks to a great game, she climbed up the table and thanks to this she confidently reached the playoffs. Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle is already waiting there.
PSG Stal Nisa should look at PSG Skra Belchatow
In the penultimate match of the PlusLiga main stage, Warsaw hosted PSG Stal Nysa. For the guests, as coach Daniel Plinski himself said, it was “the final match, like in the Polish championship.” Any victory guaranteed them access to the quarterfinals. Losing 2:3 makes you tremble for fate until the very end. PGE Skra Bełchatów will play two matches with Indykpol AZS Lublin and LUK Lublin. Both rivals are already confident in their future, which could make a difference to the level of competition.
The match itself from Projekt z Nysa was full of sudden form changes. Although the hosts confidently won the first set, they also confidently lost the next two. The triumph was decided by a tie-break, in which Graban’s team won. According to the host of the Varsovians Igor Grobelny, the last matches with BBTS Bielsko-Biala and Stal became a big test for the team. The project is preparing for the playoffs, in which it will play with ZAKSA Kendzezhin-Kozle.
“I don’t want to sound like an excuse for the team, but we have a difficult playoff season. Volleyball or strength training is much harder than it is in the middle of the season. We already knew that the last two matches would not change much in the table, because we will still be competing with ZAKSA Kendzierzyn-Kozle. We assumed in advance that the collisions with Bielsko-Biala and Nysa would be physically difficult. But everything has a purpose. We want to prepare as best we can for the key period,” Grobelny told Wprost.
Projekt Warszawa vs. ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle in PlusLiga quarter-finals
Although only the best teams participate in the playoffs, Project fans would like to see a fight not with ZAXA, but with another club in the quarterfinals of the Plus League. Residents of Kendzezhin have been playing for a long time, as they got used to us in previous years. After an exciting Champions League match against Trentino, they face another big test. They have to fight for the finals and the fight for the third title in a row with Sir Safety Perugia, a team that lost only the second game of the season a few days ago. Grobelny, in an interview with our portal, sees in the Koziolkov European skirmish a chance to surprise his team.
– ZAKSA is playing a lot now. Hopefully they will get tired after the match against Perugia in the Champions League. However, it should be borne in mind that the classification does not fully reflect their form. They keep the game top notch. It’s normal for someone to trip, but let’s look at the table. We are all close to each other. We don’t see any dominance in PlusLiga. On the one hand, I’m happy, but on the other hand, I don’t mind if we go to ZAXA. Other teams can surprise, but with ZAKSA they have nothing to surprise, because lately they have been playing phenomenally. Since we managed to beat them recently in Torvar, I hope that we will repeat this in the playoffs and, in addition, we will perform well in Kendzezhin.
Igor Grobelny as “fireman” Projekt Warszawa
Grobelny arrived in the capital in 2019 after playing in Cuprum Lubin. Born in Radom but raised in Belgium, the volleyball player has been playing in the PlusLiga as a Pole since last year. When asked to give an individual assessment of his performance this season, he does not shy away from rude opinions. He admitted that he is aware of his current role in the team. In the match with Stal, he received a chance to play longer from Piotr Graban and took advantage of it, scoring 12 points, including two aces on the pitch.
“I am dissatisfied with myself, because I represent little. I had a good start to the season, and then for a long time there was nothing. I fell out of the rhythm of the game, which inevitably reduced my motivation. I’m glad I have a chance with Nysa. I had a lot of fun playing. Now I don’t need training, but the game. I can practice, but I can’t replace the rhythm of the game. If you don’t have it, then you will feel bad on the field when you suddenly have to come in from the square and turn the game around. I know my role in the team. As some people say, I’m a “fireman”. Such opportunities in the match against Stal make us work further. I hope that I will be able to prove myself in the playoffs, - says the former representative of Belgium.
Sister dominance over brother at the Grobelny
The project leader is part of a family where volleyball is on the agenda. Father Dariusz is a former representative of Poland. In turn, Kaya’s sister is the star of the Belgian national team and the Italian Chieri. Together with the club from Turin, she won the Challenge Cup last week. The striker is also doing well in Serie A, which will put her club in the playoffs. The older brother has no doubt that his sister is the best volleyball representative of the family today.
– Kaya constantly raises the bar. He consistently wins and wins MVP awards. I’ve gotten to the point where it’s useless for me to try to pursue her. I admit that she is the best in the family (laughs). I’m glad she won the Challenge Cup. Now he will fight the team in the playoffs, so I will keep my fists,” says Grobelny. When asked what he needs to do to defeat her in the family hierarchy, he answered directly. “Nothing can be changed here. Now Kaya would probably have to retire, and I have been playing like sheet music at the highest level for many years. For me, she is the best volleyball player in the family,” the 29-year-old volleyball player compliments her sister.
Projekt Warszawa before the last round of the PlusLiga main stage
The project has one match left to play in PlusLiga. On Sunday they will play on the road with “Trefl Gdansk”. On the eve of the big hit ZAKSA will fight with Jastrzębski Węgiel. This meeting will determine the gender advantage in the quarter-final between Kędzierzyn and Warsaw.
