Polish handball players cannot consider the last few months successful. After a mediocre World Cup and the sacking of Patrick Rombel, the interim option with Bartosz Jurecki did not pass the test. The new coach will be the legendary figure of this discipline.
Fans of the Polish national team remember with nostalgia the great times of success in the first and second decades of the 21st century. For many years, the white-reds tried to refer to old achievements, but Patrick Rombel had to rebuild the team, and not make it winners of major competitions. Over time, the work formula has exhausted itself, and after this year’s world championships in our country and Sweden, ZPRP said goodbye to its long-term coach.

After the tournament and Rombel’s dismissal, the Polish Handball Association opted for a temporary option with Bartosz Jurecki. The former handball player led the team in a two-legged match against France. In both bouts, the vice-champions of the world were better, but the meeting on the Seine was held in a fairly even atmosphere. According to TVP Sport, Jurecki was one of the most serious candidates for the new coach, but in the end the Association will bet on Marcin Lievski.
- This is a question for the president, I do not want to go beyond. He makes a decision, but it seems to me that it has already been made. As far as I know, the announcement will take place on Wednesday, - said the vice-president of the federation Slawomir Schmal in an interview with TVP Sport.
Marcin Lievski’s coaching debut for Poland
Marcin Lievsky is considered one of the greatest legends of the Polish national team. Over the years, he appeared in 251 matches, scoring 711 goals. He was a member of the teams that achieved success at the 2007 and 2009 World Cups. After completing a busy professional career in 2015, he became a coach of Polish clubs. In recent years, he has had his greatest success with Gornik Zabrze. He won the PGNiG Super League Bronze, earning the Coach of the Year award.
The new coach will make his debut for the national team at the end of April. The Poles are waiting for the qualifying matches for the European Championship in 2024. First, in Italy, they will meet with Italy, and three days later, on April 30, they will receive Latvia in Ostrow Wielkopolski.
