This year the Ski Jumping World Cup is coming to an end. After the recently completed World Championships in Planica, the jumpers will head to Norway. Four-time Olympic champion in the individual competition Simon Ammann gave an interview during which he touched on the topic of ski age. At the same time, he warned Kamil Stoch and Piotr Zyla.
The 2023 Nordic Ski World Championships have already made history and Polish ski jumpers can be pleased with themselves. Piotr Zhyla’s individual gold medal on the regular hill, David Kubacki’s bronze medal on the big hill and fourth place in the team event are very good achievements. Soon the World Cup competitions in Oslo, and one of the contenders for points will be the legendary Swiss jumper Simon Ammann.
Simon Ammann warned Piotr Zhyla and Kamil Stoch
Simon Ammann, 41, is one of the oldest ski jumpers at this year’s World Championships. In his career, he has achieved four titles of the individual Olympic champion. Piotr Zyla became the oldest world champion in Planica, breaking his own two-year-old record in Oberstdorf. Kamil Stoch, the same age as his colleague, was also close to the podium. The Swiss ski jumping legend was impressed by the accomplishments of both, but at the same time warned them that it would get harder and harder as they got older.
“If they want to jump that much, of course they will. These are very good players. Kamil has had a hard time lately at the World Cup, but at the championships he proved that he can still show masterful form, that he set the best example in the team standings. However, Petrek and Kamil should be careful, because after the age of 35 it becomes more and more difficult. Kamil Stoch once admitted to me that he did not think he could jump for so long, - the Interia Sport service quotes the jumper.
Simon Ammann remembered the times of rivalry with Adam Malysh
Many years ago, Simon Ammann was one of the main rivals of Adam Malysh in the fight for Olympic gold. It is thanks to him, among others, that the current president of the Polish Ski Association never won Olympic gold. Either way, the 41-year-old Swiss is impressed with what the Pole has achieved.
“It was a long time ago, but I also like those times. It must be admitted that Adam Malysh changed this sport in the 2000/2001 season. Ski jumping has won many new fans. We don’t have such beautiful stories in Switzerland lately. But I hope such days will come again,” he added.
