Petr Zhyla surprised ski jumping enthusiasts by repeating the success of two years ago. The Polish jumper defended his world title on the normal hill at the World Championships in Planica. After the struggle, he returned to the country and was received truly masterfully.
Piotr Zyla’s individual gold medal on the normal hill in Planica is the biggest success of the Polish national team at the completed World Championships. The oldest jumper of our team unexpectedly reached for the second gold of the World Championship. He repeated the result from Oberstdorf, where, contrary to expectations, he was the best. Upon returning home, he was received very well.
Champion of Poland welcomed in Ustron
Petr Zhyla met with fans in Ustron. Hundreds of people and local authorities greeted him in the market square. The Polish champion was greeted with a bang, although he himself felt unwell. It was only because of the fans’ participation that he forced himself to briefly come over and thank them for their support.
“I’m glad I got here. I thought I wouldn’t be late. I was a little weak. But if you came, why didn’t I come? I think the World Cup went well and successfully for us, although some people got a little sick towards the end. Happened to me too. We brought two medals, I gold from a small hill and bronze David (Kubatsky) from a large hill. We are happy, despite the difficulties, we have something to enjoy. Thank you for encouraging, believing in us, because this is your merit, ”said Zhyla, quoted by echodnia.eu.
Pavel Vozek summed up the results of the World Cup in Slovenia
Together with Zhila, Pavel Vansek appeared on the stage. The jumper himself said that he would remember the completed world championships with mixed feelings. On the one hand, he performed well on a regular hill, on the other hand, he did not start in competitions on a larger hill.
– On the regular hill the competition was quite pleasant for me (16th place), on the big hill as a fan I supported my colleagues who did a fantastic job. They fought not only with their rivals, but also with their health, - Vasek said.
