Halvor Egner Granerud cannot consider his starts at the World Championship successful. After the “failure” in the second individual race in Planica, the Norwegian did not hide his disappointment about this.

The 2022/23 season of Halvor Egner Granerud was impressive to say the least. It seemed that the Norwegian would also dominate the world championships and add medals to his resume, and maybe gold. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old has become one of Planica’s biggest disappointments. True, in the second competition he performed better than in the first, but still failed. No wonder the star was so upset after this.

Ski Jumping World Championship. Halvor Egner Granerud upset to the limit

Recall that Granerud flew to Slovenia as the leader of the overall World Cup standings. Currently, he is still the leader - since the competitions held at the World Championships do not count towards the World Cup rankings - with a 293 “points” advantage over the second David Kubacki. However, in Planica, the Pole was twice better than him. In the first individual event, the Norwegian finished 11th on the small hill. He was 6 on the big one.

Of course, these results do not satisfy him, because before the championships he set himself a clear goal: to win medals, preferably gold. He will have one last chance to win any trophy in the team competition, although here, in turn, it seems that there are several stronger teams than Norway, such as Austria, Slovenia or Poland.

Granerud understands that he has not shown himself to the best of his ability and has not yet come to terms with this. “Now I hate the World Cup. This is my second worst result this year,” he told NRK. He also explained why he did so badly. It looks like the old demons of the Norwegian have made themselves felt. “I was nervous before the final series. What the fuck… It sucks. I need to work on that in order to perform well this weekend.” “Hopefully I do a lot better in sunny Trondheim,” he added.
