Alexander Stoeckl is another coach who brought up the subject of Kamil Stoch’s poor form. In the last interview, he also mentioned the rivalry between David Kubacki and Halvor Egner Granerud. According to the Austrian, the runner-up at the World Championships has been unlucky in recent weeks.
Ski jumpers are getting ready for another World Cup weekend. This time they will be hosted by American Lake Placid. Thomas Turnbichler appointed six white-and-red players to the team: David Kubatsky, Piotr Zhyla, Pavel Wonsk, Alexander Zniszol, Tomasz Pilch and Jan Habdas. Kamil Stoch will stay in Poland to rest and train individually after the disastrous competition in Willingen.
Many experts have already spoken about the Pole’s not the best character, and he himself. According to the Austrian coach of the Poles, rest would be the best option for the 35-year-old. Now this was told by the Norwegian coach Alexander Stöckl.
Alexander Stöckl sees no decline in David Kubacki’s form
The coach of the Norwegian national team gave an interview to Przegląd Sportowy, during which, in particular, he answered questions: on the form of David Kubacki. The 32-year-old from Nowy Targ is already 238 points behind his main rival Halvor Egner Granerud in the overall World Cup standings. According to Alexander Stokel, this loss is also a matter of bad luck.
“I wouldn’t say he’s lost now [Dawid Kubacki – red.] form. He failed a few jumps, he was unlucky in several, especially in Willingen. It was a special weekend. One of his jumps was in very bad conditions and he couldn’t do anything. However, I am convinced that your coaches know what to do and David will be strong all the time,” said the Austrian.
Alexander Stöckl supports Thomas Turnbichler’s decision
The Austrian coach of the Norwegian ski jumping team is convinced that Thomas Turnbichler made the right decision to let Kamil Stoch rest before the competitions in Rysnov and the World Championships in Planica.
“He definitely struggles with technical issues, and that’s where the problems start. You get into a negative spiral and things get deeper. This is especially noticeable in larger facilities, such as in Willingen. I know that he stayed in the country to work quietly, and I think that at the moment this is a really good decision, the coach added.
