On Wednesday, February 8, at the Arena am Rennsteig in Oberhof, Germany, the 56th Biathlon World Championship starts, in which Russian and Belarusian athletes will not compete. Recall that at the previous world championship in 2021 in Slovenian Pokljuka, the Ukrainian team won one medal - bronze in the women’s relay (Anastasia Merkushina, Yulia Dzhima, Elena Pidhrushnaya and Daria Blashko).

The 2023 World Cup program includes seven disciplines - sprint, pursuit, individual race, relay, mixed relay, single mixed relay and mass start, in which 360 athletes from 36 countries will compete for 12 sets of awards until February 19.

Oberhof, with a population of only 1,600, already hosted the 2004 Biathlon World Cup, is known to fans for its unpredictable weather. The World Cup was planned to be held there for the second time back in 2016, but due to the expected warm winter, the choice was then made in favor of the Norwegian Holmenkollen.

The Ukrainian national team in Oberhof will be represented by 12 athletes. In men, the team got into the application Dmitry Podruchny, Artem Prima, Anton Dudchenko, Bogdan Tsymbal, Denis Nasiko Yes Artem Tishchenkoamong women Elena Belosyuk, Yulia Jimanew European champion Anastasia Merkushina, Anna Krivonos, Love Kipyachenkova Yes Daria Blashko.
