Poland played the opening match of the World Handball Championship against France. For a long time, Byalo-Chervoni played with their rivals on equal terms, but in the end, the favorites for the final triumph in this championship showed their class.
This year the world handball championships for men are held in Poland and Sweden. By tradition, one of the hosts plays in the opening match, and in the case of this championship, it is white and red.
Our handball players got into group B with Slovenia, Saudi Arabia and France, and it was the latter that met with the opening of the games. The Poles faced a very difficult task, because Tricolor is considered one of the main favorites to win the World Cup.
Equal start of the match
The meeting began with a very successful intervention by Moravsky, who stopped one of the French. Despite this, the Tricolors were the first to score. A moment later, the Poles scored two goals in a row and took the lead for the first time, but the opponents almost immediately responded in kind.
The handball players of both teams did not force the pace. Only in the 11th minute the French took the lead by two goals (4:6) for the first time, but the Poles did not let them rebound. Moreover, in the 16th minute they even drew 8:8 thanks to Arkadiusz Morito. In this match, both goalkeepers showed very good saves, and in order to beat them, you had to work hard.
The Poles caught up before the break
However, over time, the French caught their rhythm and in the 20th minute of the match they were leading by four goals (8:12). A two-minute penalty by one of the French handball players and a good game by Moravsky led to the fact that the Poles went to the break with a backlog of just one goal (13:14).
The French started the second half better, scoring the fifteenth goal immediately after the changeover. Although a moment later Michal Olejniczak converted a penalty, Morita’s shot was stopped by the Tricolor goalkeeper. At the 33rd minute, the Polish representative had the opportunity to rehabilitate himself from seven meters and was right for the second time. The score 15:16 was kept for a long time thanks to Moravsky, who made an excellent save twice in a row. Only in the 39th minute Les Bleus made their way to our goal.
The heroic attitude of the Polish national team in defense
In the 41st minute, Byalo-Chervoni equalized thanks to Valchak, who intercepted an opponent’s inaccurate pass and used his chance in cold blood. In the 44th minute, at 19:19, Bartosz Bisz was ruled out for two minutes, which allowed the French to score two goals and rebound to the side, but not for long, because Poland made up for the losses thanks to two goals from Jendraszczyk. .
A moment later, the French were already weakened, but this did not stop them from scoring two more goals, and then adding a third from the penalty spot. The time requested by coach Patrick Rombel did not help much, because the white-reds became more and more helpless. The match ended with the score 23:26.
