Iga Świątek decided to support the 31st Grand Orchestra of the Christmas Charity. The best tennis player in the world presented her racket and a unique invitation to the auction. The player’s involvement in Jurek Owsiak’s collection outraged former oppositionist Krzysztof Wyszkowski.
In less than a month, the 31st finale of the Grand Christmas Charity Orchestra will take place. This year Jurek Ovsiak’s orchestra will perform under the slogan “Living Healthy in a Healthy World”. The foundation will raise money to fight sepsis, a disease that kills many patients. Each year, many artists and athletes join the fundraiser by donating unique items to the orchestra’s auctions.

The best Polish tennis player also joined the action. Iga Sviontek donated her racquet, which won two Grand Slams - Roland Garros and the US Open in 2022 - to the auction. The WTA ranking leader also sent out a double invitation to her French Open first round match in Paris in May/June 2023. That’s not all. After the match, the player will meet the winner of the auction for a short chat on the sidelines of the tournament. The double invitation will also allow you to watch live all the matches that take place on the day at Roland Garros. Currently, for a racket and the opportunity to meet with Iga Swiatek, you need to pay PLN 80,000.
Not everyone liked the participation of Iga Sviontek in the Grand Orchestra of the Christmas Charity. The tennis player was criticized by Krzysztof Wyszkowski. “They said that he was a decent father, but here he is just junk; pity,” Dariusz Drelich, the acting adviser to the Pomeranian voivode, and a former opposition activist from the time of the PPR, wrote on his Twitter account.
Jurek Ovsiak apologized to Iga Swiatek
With these words Yurek Ovsiak does not hide his indignation. The bandleader posted a long post on Facebook apologizing to the best Polish tennis player. “So many times we say: don’t play, don’t interfere. I am very glad that your rocket is soaring, and this is just the beginning of the auction. As a parent, I also admire your dad, who is next to you, I really admire you for your perseverance, because I know how difficult it is to offer young people training, training and more training,” Jurek Ovsiak said.
The head of the Grand Orchestra of the Christmas Charity admitted that Krzysztof Wyszkowski’s statement filled him with great sadness. “It is sad when in youth the beautiful ideas of Solidarity, so bold and immortal, can rust, and some people can destroy, spoil, tear them apart. They are in me, and thanks to this we are all together creating something like the Big Orchestra of Christmas Charity, which is doing well and, as you can see, it is gaining momentum, because we already have almost 2 million zlotys on our account,” he concluded.
