Real Madrid and France striker Karim Benzema, who won the Ballon d’Or in October, has announced his retirement from the national team. The 35-year-old striker announced his decision on his Instagram page.
“I have put in effort and made mistakes to be where I am today and I am proud of it! I wrote my story, and our story ends, ”- wrote Karim Benzema.
Recall that the star football player “broke down” before the trip of the French team to the 2022 World Cup and did not play in Qatar, where the team of Didier Deschamps lost in a crazy final to Argentina and became vice world champion.
The reason for this decision of the striker, the French media called Karim’s conflict with the head coach of the “tricolor” Deschamps, who, it seems, will continue to work with the team. Disagreements, they say, began at the beginning of the World Cup, when Benzema, despite the injury, wanted to stay in the national team, but the coach was against it. It seems that Benzem was so offended that he even turned down the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron to attend the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.
We add that the debut of the famous striker in the French national team took place in March 2007 in a friendly match against the Austrian team, when Benzem came on as a substitute in the second half and scored the winning goal. Since that time, the striker has played 97 matches for the two-time world champions and scored 37 goals.
