The future of Czeslaw Mihnevich as a coach of the Polish national team is still in question, and more and more facts are emerging related to the work of the coach during the World Cup. Roman Colton reports that tensions have arisen between the coach and the White-Reds’ spokesman, who has now revealed what happened the night after the match against Argentina.
Czesław Mikhniewicz met with Cesariy Kuleša a few days after returning from Qatar, and after the Polish coach had a conversation with the President of the PZPN, the federation released a statement. It shows that Kulesha did not take advantage of the automatic extension of the contract with the coach, although he does not exclude that another contract will be signed. However, subsequent media reports suggest that PZPN is intensively looking for a successor to Mikhnevich, with journalists suggesting new names for potential White-Red coaches.
Mikhnevich about communication error
Mihniewicz also appeared at the board meeting of the Polish Football Association, presenting a report on the World Cup. According to Roman Kolton in Interia, the breeder also had to assume that the “white-reds” were successful at the World Championships in Qatar, but “a communication error was made.”
This made Jakub Kwiatkowski, the team representative, decide to respond to the questions raised by the coach. After Mikhniewicz left for Gdynia, Kwiatkowski appeared on the podium and reminded that more than 20 press conferences dedicated to the national team had recently been organized. “Mikhnevich would like to participate in all possible events,” said Kolton, whose words are quoted by Roman.
What happened after the match with Argentina?
Kwiatkowski also recalled the events that took place after the match against Argentina in the group stage. Recall that although the Poles lost, they still secured a place in the 1/8 finals, which means they had the right to a bonus allegedly promised by the prime minister. According to Colton, Kwiatkowski revisited these events during a PZPN board meeting.
At half past three in the morning in Qatar, after the match between Argentina and Poland, Czesław Mikhnevich called the team leaders. I got the impression that team captain Robert Lewandowski was embarrassed by this situation. Kwiatkovsky said.
It was during the meeting after the match against Argentina that Mikhnevich’s assistant Kamil Potrykus “was obliged to collect the players’ account numbers so that the bonus could be transferred as quickly as possible”. As Colton added, during a briefing before the match with France, Mihnevich refused to distribute the bonus after he learned that Lewandowski wanted the staff to receive 5, not 10 million zlotys of the promised amount.
