Although Iga Sviontek has already completed the 2022 season, at the end of the year she managed to receive another very prestigious award. The Women’s Tennis Association (abbreviated as WTA) recognized the Polish woman as the best tennis player of the year.
Iga Sviontek had a fantastic 2022 season. Even though Rashinska won’t be back under the WTA banner until the end of December, she still managed to win another WTA award. This time, however, not on the court, but off it - for the huge successes that she has achieved over the past 12 months. The World Women’s Tennis Federation decided to appreciate it.
Iga Sviontek is the best tennis player of 2022 according to the WTA.
“This is the first time that Iga Sviontek has received the title of the best tennis player of the year. The Polka, who won the title of the best young player in the world in 2020, had a great season in 2022. She has worked her way to this honor by going through many tournament finals, winning trophies and winning matches. She won eight competitions, of which she won as many as six in a row. In addition, she has gone on an unbeaten streak of 37 matches,” reads a statement posted on wtatennis.com.
“Eight tournament victories include two Grand Slams (Roland Garros and US Open), WTA 1000 Doha, Indian Wells, Miami Open and WTA Rome. There are also two WTA 500 tournaments - Stuttgart and San Diego. In total, in the 2022 season, Swiatek won 67 matches, ”the message says.

All these triumphs meant that the Russian woman rose to first place in the WTA rankings and received a huge advantage over her rivals. At the moment, Swiatek has 11085 points on his account. In second place in this ranking, Ons Geber is only 5055, and in third is Jessica Pegula 4691. Polka rose to the top after Ashleigh Barty unexpectedly retired during the season and it looks like she will not give up this leadership anytime soon.
