I defended Czesław Mikhnevich as the head coach of the Polish national team for a long time, but after what has happened in our national team lately… Well, it’s impossible, and the explanations about the “media campaign” don’t sound like a very funny joke. With all due respect, it’s time for a change.
Every day the atmosphere around the Polish national team and Czesław Mikhnevich becomes more and more unbearable. Let’s be honest - he has never been a favorite of fans, pundits or journalists, but after several recent scandals, it’s hard to imagine that he could continue to function in the same team. In such a poisonous atmosphere that he de facto created himself.
A scandal is chasing a scandal in the Polish national team
Shortly after the match with France (December 4), many corpses fell out of the white-and-red wardrobe. The bonus scandal is, of course, the most important of them all, hard to understand for the average Kowalski. The very fact that the coach’s version differs in many details from the one presented, for example, by Grzegorz Krychowiak, gives food for thought. Like the words of Lukasz Wachowski, secretary of the PZPN, who admitted that Mihniewicz arranged a meeting with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki without the knowledge of the federation. From the point of view of a third party, of course, it is impossible to determine who is telling the truth, who is lying, and who is only reporting convenient facts that are beneficial to the party. However - the septic tank is broken and the smell is amazing.
To this we should add a few sports arguments given by Robert Lewandowski, Piotr Zelinsky or even Yakub Kaminsky (!!!). True, after the fact, both sides, that is, the players and the coach, swear that there are no glitches in terms of style of play or tactics, although these topics cannot be ignored. Even though our coach said that he would also like his team to play bolder in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Knowing the characteristics of Mikhnevich as a coach and what we showed in Qatar, it’s hard to believe that the lever was moving.
Finally, there is the aspect of image, which also consists of the two questions mentioned above. And in this context, it may seem that the case is lost. It is hard to imagine that Mikhnevich had any other argument that he would attract crowds, that he would convince the unconvinced.
Cheslav Mikhnevich at war
He already had time for this, but instead he chose to focus on fighting journalists. Not only Polish, but that’s half the trouble. It looks worse in the home yard. Of course, I’m not saying that every media representative from our country loves tomato soup, that it’s impossible not to love it, but it’s no exaggeration. If, for example, a coach cannot answer a normally asked question, referring to the previous words of his wards, then he simply does not hold pressure, which reflects badly on him.
Unfortunately, this was just one of the many outbursts of our coach, who at the same time spoke about the “media campaign” on Polish Radio. “We became its victims. During an interview at one of the stations, I felt like Christina Yanda in the film Interrogation. I was waiting for Faibusevich from “997” or Voloshansky from “Sensation of the 20th century” to enter. It was all absurd,” he said.
Kind of funny, but not really. From this statement, the conclusion is fundamental: earlier, coach Mikhnevich swore that he was not impressed by the media pressure. On the air of the Polish Radio, he confirmed the truth of this thesis. And if this was not enough, then a day later, exactly on December 12, he began to massively block sports journalists on Twitter who dared to criticize him in any way, even in terms of such issues as the playing style of the Polish national team. . Recall that earlier he claimed that he did not follow the media and what they say / write. Well, how is it in the end?
