The UEFA vice-president referred to pre-match statements that showed that the Polish national team could show a different face in the quarter-final match against France, because the goal of qualifying from the group had been achieved. At one of the pre-match meetings, coach Cheslav Mikhnevich admitted that before the match with France, it was necessary to cut off from what was still in the group stage.

We asked former footballer and Polish representative Marek Jozwiak to comment on the words of Zbigniew Boniek, who said that if anyone thought that the match against France would not matter, then he was very mistaken. “You go to a game to win it. Despite the fact that you only left the group after 36 years, you are still in the game and under the same conditions as France and other teams that have remained in the championship. I don’t think there should be any pre-match denial,” he said.

At the very end, Marek Yuzwiak said that it was a pity that the championship turned out this way for us, because, in his opinion, it could have been different. “If we had played a little differently against Mexico and a little more luck, we would have played not against France, but against Australia, and maybe they would have given us this quarter-final,” he said.
The former football player of the Warsaw Legia emphasized that Brazil, Germany, France and Argentina have already lost in these championships. “It means that the contenders for the title of world champion lost matches with a theoretically weaker opponent,” he concluded.
