The German football legend is dead. Cause of death unknown

Very sad information has spread in the media. German media reported that Uwe Seeler, the legend of local football, has died. The former football player recently struggled with health issues.

Uwe Seeler, one of the greatest legends of German football, has died at the age of 85. Information about the death was reported by foreign media on Thursday, July 21.

Honorary national team captain and football legend Uwe Seeler has died at the age of 85. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are addressed to his family and loved ones,” we read in parting words of the legend. The cause of death of the former Hamburger and Germany international is unknown, but media speculate that Seeler died of natural causes.

Recently, the German had quite a few health problems. In 2020, he had to undergo hip surgery, which, fortunately, went without complications and lasted about 60 minutes, according to Bild.

Uwe Seeler played for Hamburger SV 1953–1972 as a striker. He is considered a real legend of German football and the Hamburg team with which he won the national championship. The player scored 404 goals in 476 matches for the team from Hamburg.

On the other hand, he made his debut for the German national team after the 54th World Cup won for Germany, his last match he played in 1970, after the World Cup in Mexico. In total, he played 72 matches for the national team, in which he scored 43 goals. In 1960, 1964 and 1970 he was recognized as the best football player in Germany. Uwe Seeler was so connected to Hamburg that he was club president from 1995 to 1998.

On April 23, 1978, at the request of Adidas, Uwe Seeler entered the field as a “guest player” for the Irish team Cork Celtic. The German did not convert, but made the championship match. His team unfortunately lost 2-6 to Shamrock Rovers High. Of course, Seeler only scored two goals for his team.
