The employees of the American embassy in Warsaw also expressed their condolences. “The staff of the US Embassy in Warsaw expresses their sincere condolences to the ambassador and his family,” the message says. Mark Brzezinski (57) has been the US Ambassador to Poland since this year.
Mark Brzezinski himself also announced his death in the middle of the night, making it clear how important his mother was in his life.
- Emily Benes Brzezinski “Bamba”, my beloved mother passed away today. Bamba was an outstanding artist, an outstanding intellectual and, above all, a pillar of support for our family. She was my heroine. It leaves a void that cannot be filled,” wrote Mark Brzezinski.
Cech was born in Geneva, lives in the USA
Beneš Brzezinski was a painter and sculptor of Czech origin and a relative of pre-war Czechoslovak Prime Minister and President Edvard Beneš (+64), born in Geneva, Switzerland. As her daughter wrote, she ended up in the United States during World War II, despite the fact that a German torpedo hit the ship on which she sailed.
Shortly after graduating in fine arts from Wellesley College in Massachusetts, she married Zbigniew Brzezinski, an academic and later national security adviser to U.S. President Jimmy Carter. She survived her husband by 5 years.
She combined the upbringing of three children with artistic creativity. Emily specialized in large woodcarving. She had her first exhibition in Washington in 1981, after only a quarter of a century of artistic work.
She had her own opinion and she spoke about it.
Mika emphasized that she was very independent.
- She broke protocol in China when she stood up to toast at a state dinner; she instructed John Paul II on contraceptives and the need for women in the priesthood while dining with him.
