A series of ointments and creams called Elocom is immediately withdrawn from pharmacies. Cause? The risk of “introducing a state of uncertainty among patients”.
It is an ointment and cream that is described as being indicated for the relief of inflammatory and itching symptoms in certain dermatoses such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. The Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate decided to immediately recall several batches of the medicinal product throughout Poland.
Cream and ointment Elokom should be withdrawn from pharmacies
According to GIF in its message, we are talking about two drugs:
- Elokom (Mometasoni furoas), 1 mg/g, cream, GTIN 5909991436568,
-
batch number: W018404, expiry date: 05/31/2024,
-
batch number: W015307, expiration date: 04/30/2024,
-
responsible person in the country of export: ORGAON BIOSCIENCES SRL, Romania,
-
person authorized for parallel import: Medezin Sp. z ooz in a boat,
- Elokom (Mometasoni furoas), 1 mg/g, ointment, GTIN 5909991436568,
-
batch number: W018404, expiry date: 05/31/2024,
-
batch number: W015307, expiration date: 04/30/2024,
-
responsible person in the country of export: ORGAON BIOSCIENCES SRL, Romania,
-
legal entity authorized for parallel import of Medezin Sp. z ooz in the boat.
Why is Elocom ceasing to exist? Packaging confusion
The reason for GIF’s decision is confusion with Elocom’s collective packaging. As we read in the communiqué, “The Main Pharmaceutical Inspectorate received information (…) about the discovery at the stage of repackaging of the drug Elocom, cream, 1mg / g, tube 15g, the presence in the carton with packaging materials of individual cardboard boxes with Elocom, ointment, 1mg / g, tube 15g. GIF justifies its decision to withdraw specific batches of ointment and cream by saying that there is a risk of “introducing a state of uncertainty among patients due to incorrect description on the outer packaging of the drug.”
The decision to withdraw the ointment and cream is not GIF’s only decision this month. In March, lemon balm in bags was also taken out of production due to contamination of the product with another plant.
