The industry is satisfied with the EU decisions on internal combustion engines. But I’m waiting for specifics.

Must read

The ban on the registration of “emission” cars, adopted by the EU Council from 2035, and the “gateway” for internal combustion vehicles running on e-fuel, comments the Polish Association of Automobile Dealers.

In the preamble to the EU Council Regulation on the commitment to 100% reduction in CO2 emissions from new cars from 2035, there was a provision that the European Commission would submit (in autumn) a proposal to exempt vehicles using synthetic fuel (e-fuel) from the ban on registration.

As the Association of Car Dealers (ZDS) points out, the provision introducing the possible possibility of registration of internal combustion vehicles running on emission-free fuel is an opportunity to keep the automotive industry in the current model. According to the Association, it also “listens to the position of the dealer industry, expressed by ZDS through its activities in the European organization that brings together national structures associated with authorized dealerships, that is, AECDR.” Going beyond the “gates” for the registration of combustion vehicles will create an opportunity to work on alternative solutions and technologies.

The traditional car can be saved

– Preamble 11 of the Regulation mentions e-fuels, which states: “After consultation with stakeholders, the Commission will submit a proposal for the registration after 2035 of vehicles running exclusively on zero-emission fuels in accordance with Union legislation going beyond fleet standards and in in line with the Union’s goal of achieving climate neutrality.” In turn, in the positions of the parties we read that this proposal should be made public this autumn. We think it is very good that such a paragraph was included in the document. Although this is a directive provision from which no detailed regulations yet follow, it is nevertheless the basis for the continued operation of internal combustion vehicles, on the existence of which the further operation of an extremely important sector of the automotive market, including spare parts, depends. car manufacturers, factories and service stations,” comments Pavel Tuzynek, president of the Association of Automobile Dealers.

As ZDS emphasizes, the production and further development of vehicles equipped with internal combustion engines, even those powered by non-fossil fuels, will allow the automotive industry to remain as we know it and thus continue to operate a large part of the automotive market. - In the event of a complete rejection of internal combustion engines, it is estimated that almost 600,000 people across Europe could lose their jobs, which directly means the collapse of one of the pillars of the industry of the old continent, worries the Union.

Poland is the third largest power

And he goes on to explain that the Polish automotive and service industry employs more than 200,000 people (of which about 50,000 are in the dealer sector), making up the third largest employee base in Europe. - A significant part of them may be deprived of work in the event of a complete rejection of internal combustion vehicles. In view of the foregoing, the Association of Automobile Dealers will remain committed to supporting the development of alternative low-emission and zero-emission technologies that allow both the functioning of the market and the lowest possible price of cars at the end of consumers, the association said in a position published on March 29.
