Helps to lose weight and protects against type 2 diabetes: scientists called the “miraculous” properties of coffee

Researchers believe that drinking coffee reduces the risk of complications from certain diseases in people who are overweight and have type 2 diabetes.

A study published in BMJ Medicine shows a relationship between body fat and caffeine intake.

High levels of caffeine in the blood prevent the accumulation of fat in the body and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Drinking 3-5 cups of coffee daily may reduce the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The average cup of coffee contains 70-150 mg of caffeine. But these results are more observational than quantitative.

To refine such studies and establish causal relationships between coffee and obesity, the researchers used Mendelian randomization. Mendelian randomization is a technique that uses genetic variants, in this case blood levels of caffeine, to provide genetic evidence for the effect of caffeine on weight and type 2 diabetes risk.

There have been six long-term studies examining the role of two common genetic variants, CYP1A2 and AHR, in nearly 10,000 people. These genes are responsible for how quickly caffeine is metabolized in the body.

According to the results of the study, it was found that higher genetically engineered blood levels of caffeine are associated with lower weight (body mass index), less body fat, and a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

It was found that among all the factors influencing weight loss and reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, the proportion of caffeine consumption was 43%.

According to researchers, caffeine speeds up metabolism, enhances fat burning and reduces appetite. A daily intake of 100 mg of caffeine increases energy expenditure by 100 calories per day, which, as a result, leads to weight loss and reduces the risk of obesity.
