Co-financing of corrective eyeglasses from the National Health Fund is to help people with visual impairments. Who can get compensation for glasses in 2023?
Co-financing for the purchase of eyeglasses extends to people who need to use corrective eyeglasses to correct visual defects. The regulation of the Minister of Labor provides for the reimbursement of the cost of glasses for people who spend at least half of their working time in front of the monitor, that is, at least 4 hours a day.
Legal basis for subsidizing points by employers
The right to co-finance corrective eyeglasses is regulated by the regulations of the Minister of Labor and Social Policy and the Labor Code:
The Decree of the Minister of Labor and Social Policy of December 1, 1998 states: “The employer is obliged to provide employees with glasses for the correction of vision in accordance with the recommendation of a doctor, if the results of ophthalmological examinations carried out as part of preventive medical precautions show the need for their use when working with a monitor screen “.
On the other hand, Article 237(6) of the Labor Code states: “The employer is obliged to provide the employee with personal protective equipment, free of charge, that protects against exposure to hazardous and harmful factors in the workplace. environment and inform him about how to use these funds ”

Who can apply for employer co-financing of glasses?
Every employee who needs corrective glasses to work with laptop and desktop monitors can take advantage of the glasses subsidy. The employer is obliged to provide the employee with the opportunity to reimburse part of the costs incurred for the purchase of glasses.
How can I get a refund for prescription eyeglasses from my employer?
In order to receive funds for the purchase of glasses, it is necessary to provide the employer with a certificate from an occupational health doctor confirming the need to wear corrective glasses. The doctor performs an eye examination and then enters the patient’s data into the system, thanks to which he receives a prescription for the purchase of glasses.
When purchasing spectacle lenses, the employee must request an invoice with their personal details. An invoice must then be sent to the employer confirming the purchase of prescription glasses, whereby the employee should receive a partial refund of the costs incurred for the purchase of glasses.
Co-financing points at work - what kind of return can you expect in 2023?
According to the decree of the Minister of Health, the return of points is carried out:
-
PLN 35 (PLN 17.50 for one spectacle lens) for people with a defect of +/- 6.0 diopters or astigmatism up to 2 diopters
-
PLN 70 (PLN 35 for one glasses) for people with astigmatism over 2 diopters
When does the employer pay compensation for the purchase of prescription glasses?
The ministerial decree does not specify when exactly part of the costs incurred for the purchase of corrective glasses should be reimbursed. The employer must indicate this in the internal regulations.
Funding glasses for children 2023
The refund also applies to children. They have the right to change lenses as often as necessary, but no more than once every six months. For children under 18 years of age and with a visual impairment of +/- 6 diopters, the supplement for glasses is a maximum of PLN 50 (PLN 25 for one spectacle lens).
Reimbursement from the National Health Fund for the purchase of glasses with an ophthalmologist’s prescription only
After purchasing corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses, we may receive a partial refund from the National Health Fund. However, the refund is only for people who have a prescription from an ophthalmologist who has a contract with the National Health Fund. The prescription we receive during a private visit to the doctor is not an indication for the purchase of subsidized prescription glasses.
To receive a partial refund from the NHF, we need to go to the nearest branch of the NHF, the Foundation’s Orthopedics Department, and present a prescription for the purchase of glasses there. When the document is confirmed by the National Fund, we need to find a salon where we can write out a prescription and buy glasses.
How long is a prescription for glasses from the National Health Fund?
The glasses prescription is valid for 12 months.
