Medicinal properties of honey. Which type is best for health?

Must read

Honey is a product that has a great effect on the body, and it is not for nothing that it is called “liquid gold”. Its nutritional properties make it also popular as a sugar substitute.

Honey has antibacterial properties and often helps with colds. The enzymes in honey, which come from the salivary glands of insects, promote health. Honey contains a large number of trace elements, such as: magnesium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, calcium, vitamins A, B and C.

Medicinal properties of honey

  • Honey has a bactericidal effect.

  • It helps relieve diarrhea.

  • It will work as a remedy for stomach ulcers.

  • This helps lower blood pressure.

  • In the treatment of liver diseases, it can help relieve pain.

  • Calms the nerves and helps to sleep better.

  • Stimulates the work of the brain.

  • It has a positive effect on stopping atherosclerosis.

Types of honey

Each honey has different nutritional and healing properties. Honey production varies depending on its type. Honey can be divided according to the method of its production:

  • Nectar: Made from flower nectar collected by bees.

  • Honeydew: Produced by bees from secretions left on leaves or needles, including aphids.

  • Honeydew Nectar: Formed from honeydew and honeydew.

Honeys differ from each other, including texture and color. When consumed, you may experience a different taste and aroma. For this reason, the following types of honey can be distinguished:

  • Multi-colored honey: soft and very sweet.

  • Linden honey: rich, sweet, slightly sour, sometimes even bitter.

  • Acacia honey: distinctly sweet in taste, delicate and light in color.

  • Buckwheat honey: dark in color, slightly spicy, less sweet than, for example, multi-flowered honey.

  • Heather honey: dark in color, slightly bitter-tart taste, delicate aroma.

  • Lavender honey: intense aroma of lavender flowers, quite sweet in taste, but with a hint of a bitter aftertaste.

  • Raspberry honey: fruity aroma, delicate sweet taste.

  • Honeydew honey from coniferous honeydew: delicate smell, slightly resinous taste, less sweet than nectar honeys.

  • Honeydew: sweeter than its predecessor, slightly noticeable spicy aftertaste.

Honey contains ingredients like inhibin and lysozyme that have antimicrobial properties, which is great for a cold body. Honey also has antipyretic and analgesic properties. Colds are usually accompanied by shortness of breath, cough, runny nose, and honey helps to reduce these symptoms. Regular consumption of honey also helps to increase the production of antibodies by the immune system. Thanks to this, the body will be prepared to fight the disease.

Honey as a cosmetic

This product is also good as a cosmetic product - it nourishes, moisturizes the skin, soothes irritations and prevents the formation of wrinkles. Honey is also used in massage. Honey massage will nourish the skin and give amazing relaxation. In stores, you can buy face masks that are made from honey and will have a great effect on the appearance of the face. You can also make a honey mask at home, but be aware that it will have a much stickier consistency. Honey is great for dry skin or chapped lips. This product also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which can lead to scar reduction, explains Aleksandra Skrzynska from the news site.
