After the visit of leader Xi Jinping to Moscow, China again started talking about a diplomatic settlement of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. They called the Russian aggression a “Ukrainian crisis” and accused “some countries” of deliberately obstructing “peace talks” in their geopolitical interests. The relevant statement was made Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gangreports CNN.
“Some countries are deliberately obstructing peace talks for their own geopolitical interests and have even made up all sorts of rumors and misconceptions to attack and discredit China,” Qin said.
According to him, China is “not a creator or a party involved in the crisis”, but a “protector” supporting a political settlement and facilitating peace negotiations.
The official also described China-Russia relations after President Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow. He said they could become “even more valuable than rampant unilateralism and hegemonism.”
“China and Russia will continue to maintain good neighborliness and mutual trust, as Xi’s decision to choose Russia for his first overseas visit under his new term was a political decision made after careful deliberation,” Qin added.
