Fans of the popular Amazon Prime Video series boys know that in this series it’s hard to choose which character they like best over the rest. It’s because boys It features one charming personality after another, each ranging from pure-hearted to outright diabolical. However, even with the presence of the “Seven” coupled with a team of “boys” battling their own secret atrocities, there is one character who is one of the most loved by viewers at home. And believe it or not, she doesn’t have superpowers. This character is Ashley Barrett, played by the talented Colby Minifi.
Minifi didn’t appear out of nowhere when she was cast as Ashley. boys. She has previously starred in TV series such as Law and order, Wonderful Mrs Maisel, And Jessica Jones. But when she was given the role of Ashley, she likely had no idea that she was stepping into the role of the character that would bring her the most attention in her career. Ashley is first introduced to fans as the number one assistant Madeleine Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue) that runs Vought, a huge corporation that manages/controls the superheroes that make up The Seven.
Ashley starts with a train wreck in The Boys
At first, Ashley comes across as a nervous simpleton who really needs a spa day. It seems that whatever she does, whether it’s for one of the superhero employees or for her boss, it goes unnoticed or becomes irrelevant when plans change from moment to moment. Of course, there is also increased violence around her. As with most companies, the negativity runs low and Ashley directs much of her frustration towards new member of The 7, Starlight, also known as Annie January (Erin Moriarty). Unfortunately, Vought lets Ashley go after the superhero scandal, as someone has to take charge. Luckily for fans and Minifi herself, the character will return next season.
The end of the first season ends with a shocking scene from Homelander (Anthony Starr) blew the brains out of his boss/mistress, Madeleine Stillwell, suddenly freeing himself up at the top of the food chain in Vought. It wasn’t until the beginning of the second season that fans learned that it was actually Ashley who was rehired to replace Madeleine. Her personality seems to be exactly the same, although she seems to be flustered by what seems to be the first time. Ashley seems to be proud of the work she has done, including introducing the newest member of the Elite Seven. However, her belief that she is now in control is delusional, a fact immediately proved to her by her most famous employee, Homelander.
Showing that he will never be told what to do or not have a say in important corporate decisions, Homelander shockingly kills Ashley’s new superhero addition to the Seven and explains her true place in the company. (Of course, this is another one of Homelander’s least heroic moments.) Ashley goes from self-confidence to sudden horror, not for her job, but for her life. Now she understands that she can make decisions for the company, but when it comes to important choices, it is better to please Homelander, since he can kill her at any moment. If Ashley used to think she was working in an extremely stressful situation, now she is taking it to a whole new level.
The character of Minifi still retains the same manic personality in Season 2 as she did in Season 1. Ashley spends her days working for Vought in a constant state of terror and stress. Many fans can’t help but feel sympathy for her as she seems to be stuck between a job (she no doubt always wanted to) and the constant threat of being permanently expelled for making the wrong decision. Professionally, she is effectively stuck between two forces that could drive anyone crazy. Not only does she have to run all of Homelander and get his approval, but on the other hand, she is given orders by her own boss, Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito), who considers Homelander just an asset of the company and nothing more. But in Season 3, Ashley soon finds herself with more power than ever (although that power will once again prove to be all smoke and mirrors).
Ashley is still a train wreck in Season 2, but it’s a train wreck with power
There are many boys enthusiasts who, by the end of the second season, really liked Ashley as a character. But a lot of that attraction came from a strong liking for the character, as she’s stuck in a highly stressful situation and is clearly on the verge of a nervous breakdown. This is conveyed on screen as she begins pulling a tuft of hair out of her head, clearly indicating how physically affected she is, in addition to the mental tug of war she goes through every day. However, in the third season, Ashley takes an important turn, much to the delight of home viewers.
When fans see Ashley again in Season 3, she is shocked to not only come to terms with her role in the company, but even accept it. She has evolved into what can be described as a version of her former boss, Madeleine, who has been at the center of some of the show’s wildest moments. Of course, Ashley is a person in her own right and will direct things as she sees fit. If she is about to be abused by an upstream food chain, she will turn around and do the same to those below her. However, her violence through the ranks has unfortunate sexual overtones, a tactic that makes her feel more powerful and in control.
Near the end of the third season, Homelander got rid of Stan Edgar and installed Ashley in his place as the company’s new CEO. At this point, Ashley fully accepted the fact that if she was going to get the job she had always dreamed of, she needed to deal with whatever Homelander wanted. And Ashley is not going to miss this opportunity, especially after everything she’s been through. Despite Starlight’s attempts to convince her to help destroy the company from within, Ashley sends her on her way, having pretty much established herself in her new evil position.
Ashley’s character boys liked by many fans for a variety of reasons. Her character line from seasons 1 to 3 stands out as one of the toughest. At first, Ashley deserves sympathy, as she is clearly an adventurous woman who finds herself in a terrible professional situation. But what makes this character so unique is that Ashley becomes a kind of wreck of a walking machine, from which it is simply impossible to look away. She is not going to give up her professional goals, even if it means working with a sociopathic superhero who can melt her eye sockets with a laser at any moment. It will be very interesting to see where the creators choose to portray her ever-changing personality in the upcoming fourth season.
