But the man in the Happy Madison logo, seen after a golf ball hits a broken screen, has an even more personal origin than you might think.
Adam Sandler’s character in ‘Hustle’ was inspired by the same person
The Happy Madison logo shows a man on a golf course with a graying beard and mustache, holding a golf club in front of him. This familiar face actually belonged to Adam Sandler’s late father. Stanley Sandlerwho died of lung cancer in 2003. The extent to which his father’s legacy has influenced his projects is clear: Sandler weaves homage to his beloved father into many of his films. During the appearance on Josh HorowitzX Happy sad embarrassed podcast, Sandler explains how he also chose the name for his Fuss the character “Stanley Sugerman” in an ode to his father and for the role grew a beard to resemble what his father looked like when Sandler was growing up. This fictional character and his father shared many positive traits, Sandler lovingly relates, including dedication, hard work, and a passion for training him and his friends in a variety of sports (including golf), as seen in the famous logo.
Not only does the Happy Madison logo feature Sandler’s father, it also includes the word “awesome”, which is often misattributed to Stanley himself. With Stanley’s image saying the word in the logo, it’s easy to see how many people would make that guess. However, due to being created after his father’s death, Adam Sandler chose to best emulate his father and voice the sound himself. The result is so convincing that even Adam Sandler’s own mother still thinks it was recorded by Stanley, and Sandler maintains the pretense as a kind gesture towards her.
Even though the voice in the logo does not actually belong to his late father, Stanley’s vocal credits can be found elsewhere in Happy Madison’s work. In an animated film eight crazy nights, a Hanukkah musical comedy film about an alcoholic man sentenced to community service, Stanley Sandler voices the character “Father Davey”.
