While DC had a tough year in 2023 with both Shazam! Fury of the gods And Flash bombing the box office, fledgling DC Studios hopes to fix a sinking ship with blue beetle this summer. The sci-fi action adventure hits theaters this August, and Warner Bros. gradually began to increase the marketing campaign of the new film. This includes a line of McFarlane Toys action figures for blue beetlebut now Funko have released their scarab into the ring, unleashing the newest pop wave for the popular DC hero.
Pops include Blue Beetle, the civilian alter-ego of hero Jaime Reyes, and movie villain Conrad Carapax. What’s more, the Blue Beetle’s Chase variant glows in the dark. This line will also feature a GameStop-exclusive Pop version of the Blue Beetle with his signature cannon. The heroic action continues with the Funko Soda line of vinyl figures, which includes Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes and Conrad Carapax. Their chases include a glow-in-the-dark blue beetle, Jaime holding his iconic blue scarab, and Conrad Carapax in his villainous armor. There’s also Jaime’s Nana, an adorable soda that’s exclusive to Amazon. Finally, this line is completed by Pop’s keychain featuring Blue Beetle in the same “superhero landing” pose as his regular Pop.
What blue beetle ABOUT?
The film is about the second Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduegna) who comes into contact with a mysterious blue alien scarab who grants him a supersuit with extraordinary powers such as flight, weapon sorcery, and super strength. Jaime is forced to learn how to control his newfound power, which sometimes has a mind of its own, while also struggling with the day to day activities that come with just being a young adult. This is something the comic book genre has seen countless times before, but blue beetle special because it’s the first time a Latin American superhero is starring in a big blockbuster. One cannot underestimate what this film means to present in the main Hollywood landscape. Also the cast featuring George Lopez, Susan Sarandon, Adriana Barraza, Bruna MarquezineAnd Becky G absolutely incredible. Given DC’s recent setbacks, it will be interesting to see how blue beetle is at the box office. Hopefully he’s given a fair chance as the character and his lore is one of DC’s most valuable hidden gems.
