However, after what must have seemed like an excruciating delay to fans of the show, the series, which ended its first part in May 2022, is set to premiere on ABC on June 14. Ahead of the series’ return, the network has released a new trailer, and it promises more laughs, a ton of guest stars ahead of the most wonderful summer yet.
The highly anticipated trailer for the original coming-of-age comedy that tells the story of the Williams family in the late 1960s. With 12 year old Dean Williams (Elisha “EJ” Williams) as the point of view from which the story unfolds, the trailer kicks off at the most exciting time for kids around the world - the end of the school year and the start of summer. Pretty quickly, the tone for the upcoming season is quickly set as there will be a lot of laughs during the time period when big social changes are starting to unfold. Good old family disagreements are on display, as are the complexities of relationships growing up. One thing is certain. The summer of ’69 would be the most amazing for young Dean.
The Wonder Years developed Saladin K. Patterson, and it’s a reimagining of the Emmy-winning retro series of the same name. The series focuses primarily on Dean’s humorous memories of growing up in a middle-class black family in Montgomery, Alabama. The Wonder Years will shed light on all the ups and downs associated with this experience, including friendship, laughter, pain, and the lessons that come along throughout the journey. Legendary R&B artist Patti Labelle will join him for several episodes as Dean’s maternal grandmother, Shirley Williams. The lovable character Labelle is also the leader of a church choir who is equally equipped to show a different side when choir members don’t hit the right notes.
Second season The Wonder Yearspremieres on Wednesday, June 14 on ABC, with all episodes of the season available to stream on Hulu the next day.
